Siding with employer or employee here?

After ten years of service at my job, I resigned my post Wednesday afternoon to start something new for a company that doesn’t have a presence in the same market but is in same industry.
My boss, who was one of 3 original founders calls and offers more money to stay. I politely decline. He says to think about it over night and that the CEO will call me to discuss and pleads that I answer the call. Ceo never calls and I never hear from my boss again. I continue with resignation Thursday morning.
Now here’s my question. It was my understanding that it be pretty customary to carry the employee on medical coverage through the month of resignation. I have paid my insurance premiums already in my 3/15 paycheck. My wife is pregnant which they know. Upon walking out of our first ultrasound Thursday, I received notification that medical benefits would terminate that evening. Just last week, I closed about $3mm in revenue for this company, on top of 5 consecutive years of 40% growth YoY.
Anyway, I have arranged medical coverage through month end, but my new employer’s HR head said in 30 years, he’s never heard of a Company terminating medical before month end.
So, dick move by employer or not a big deal?

Dick move. Sounds petty. How large is this company?

So Burger King is offering more?

Sounds like a dick move by former employer to me

Sounds like you made the correct decision to get out.

You’d think that CEO would be worried about his unborn child but I guess not.

You can just pay the full premium through COBRA and stay on your company's insurance for up to 18 months after quitting.

Don't they have to offer cobra?

Did you give two weeks notice or just one day?

Yea, I have COBRA and will be enrolled in new plan in 7 days. It isn’t an issue, just thought it was funny they went from saying “we can’t lose you, please don’t do this” to “ok your medical is cancelled right now”.

Any issue with a pre-existing condition with the new company? Get COBRA if yes.

Gave two weeks. They said work until next Wednesday, then next correspondence was Thursday would be my last day.
There are about 15 ppl in the office of 200 offices at any given time and this troll woman came out of no where to be my escort while I cleared out.

These large companies have polices. Go talk to your prior employer about it

This. You should take some solace in this.

they have to offer cobra anyway so I assume the salary increase for the new gig makes up for you paying that…even if it is slight petty
switching jobs while wife is pregnant and new insurance doesn’t kick in immediately is too stressful for me, congrats on the sex and promotion

Seems odd and petty for publicly traded company
