The North American Aviation P-51 Mustang is an American long-range, single-seat fighter and fighter-bomber used during World War II and the Korean War, among other conflicts. The Mustang was designed in April 1940 by a team headed by James H. Kindelberger[5] of North American Aviation (NAA) in response to a requirement of the British Purchasing Commission. The commission approached NAA to build Curtiss P-40 fighters under license for the Royal Air Force (RAF). Rather than build an old design from another company, NAA proposed the design and production of a more modern fighter. The prototype NA-73X airframe was rolled out on 9 September 1940, 102 days after the contract was signed, and first flew on 26 October.

You have more painting patience than I've ever had. Good looking model.

Glad you like it. As for patience, one of the things I enjoy most about modeling is the patience it requires.

The P51 had a 19 to 1 kill ratio in WW2. One of my favorite WW2 era fighters.

It's odd because I could do lead D&D miniatures, but looking at the 90 degree angles on the engine cowling made me go "nope!" I'm a simple paint and "fix it with decals guy." I tried to airbrush some of my stuff as a kid, and that convinced me I wasn't good enough to keep going.

Impressive work.

Thanks. Oddly enough I rarely use masking on straight lines. I usually freehand brush paint everything. That’s what I did on this one. Guess I have a very steady hand.

Great work!

Those P51s are beautiful, but the Corsair is the eye candy for me.

Nice model. Incredible detail on the hand painted livery.

The aging/patina effects are impressive!

Excellent, Darth! The scars of war and powder residue look great. I’ve always loved those inverted gull wings.

SEXY!!

Thanks. I did a good deal of research on that one. I know a lot about how tanks weather from my experience as a tanker in real life. But I’ve never didn’t really know how to weather a WWII era aircraft operating on an aircraft carrier for an extended period of time. Took some time to find some good color source materials. But it was worth the effort.

As per usual, beautifully executed! You always turn out excellent work.

When might we expect a P-38 out of you?

I think I knew this. While the P-51 is the superior aircraft, those P-40s will always be one of my favorites from that era.
