Me and the gf were supposed to be flying to Greece in October premium economy through American. Woke up to an email this morning that American had completely cancelled our flight to to Athens and they have no other premium economy options available that day. Am I entitled to a full refund due to this? What are my options. Ideally would like to be in at least prem economy for about what we paid for the original flights

...knuckles cracking...Let's see what we can do
Origin of travel?
Dates of travel?
Flexibility to change dates +/- a day if they do have premium economy available?
Ability to change airports (example baton rouge vs nola) or change what european airport you fly into?
Once we know the above we can look and see if one of the other airlines is cheaper, in which case get your refund + rebook on another airline

10/4 - 10/12
MSY-ATH, JTR-MSY
We can probably leave a day earlier if need be but would prefer not to leave later. Our Mykonos (Oct 7-9) and Santorini (Oct 9 -12) hotels are non refundable unfortunately.
Changing origin airports is no issue, our current return flight has 24 hours in London so would love to keep that if possible but I know that's tough since it's BA so not a deterrent.
Thanks for all you do!

Okay so at a first glance, it looks like there's options. Since AA cancelled your flight, you can change to anything they offer on their website for free. Typing in MSY-ATH I see a bunch of different offers for 10/4 in premium economy.
There's 2 premium economy seats left on the british airways flights below. They show up as AA codeshares
New Orleans, LA to London, United Kingdom Wednesday, October 4, 2023
9:50 PM
12:40 PM
AA 6975 788-Boeing 787
London, United Kingdom to Athens, Greece Thursday, October 5, 2023
8:30 PM
2:05 AM
AA 6850 320-Airbus A320
Operated by British Airways
Long layover in London but you'd take the nonstop to europe out of MSY. Your other options include double connecting, taking the downgrade to economy, or leaving a day earlier
This is the other decent option but it's double connecting
New Orleans, LA to Charlotte, NC
Wednesday, October 4, 2023
12:53 PM 3:54 PM
AA 1791 738-Boeing 737
Charlotte, NC to London, United Kingdom
Wednesday, October 4, 2023
6:51 PM 7:40 AM
AA 730 772-Boeing 777
London, United Kingdom to Athens, Greece
Thursday, October 5, 2023

AA 6851 320-Airbus A320

That 2:05a arrival into Athens is criminal

Yeah we were originally on the 2:05 back in March but I changed bc that's terrible, the double connecting isn't to bad it would just cut our time in Athens down to pretty much a day. Would I be able to book a flight on the 3rd in prem economy for free?

I’d have a room at the connecting hotel (Sofitel Athens airport ) and would go straight to sleep after I grabbed my bags. That’s a really nice hotel and super convenient.

I think we are gonna end up doing the London flight and get the airport hotel for that day and just wake up in the morning and go to our actual hotel and drop bags off. It sucks having to pay for an extra night but looks like best option to not have to miss pretty much a whole day.

Cuse,
Bumped this thread instead of starting a new one.
We have been monitoring travel in April 2024 mainly any starting points on the west coast then we will end up road tripping back to Louisiana. What grabbed our attention first was when we saw 1-way flights to Seattle for $79, since then those went away and held consistently $129…. But the real reason for my bump and questions is we had 2 instances recently where.
San Diego popped up ($83), then an hour or less later bumped back up to $160….
Then yesterday I noticed San Francisco showed ($83) then bumped up to $160.. in only 30 min!!
Obviously we should have pulled the trigger when we saw these prices, but we have multiple options for what we can do and wanted to be together when booking the flights… now the other consistent prices that were sitting still in Burbank when from $136 to $174…
Just wondering what’s your thoughts on the flight market and why it does this sometimes? Especially when it’s far out…
Thanks

When this far out, airlines will slowly release their lowest fare inventory. They're trying to get you/other people to book the highest possible price so if they know people have set travel dates (think Christmas Eve, New years Eve, etc) then they'll only release that low inventory and there won't be a lot of it. As long as you're flexible on your dates of travel (say leave Tuesday or Wednesday instead of Sunday/Monday) that opens up a lot of doors.
Set a Google flight alert (sounds like you may already have one set?) and if it drops to those $83 prices and they're decent times book it. Between now and April I'd expect another schedule change.

It's been a fun game.
Unfortunately we are gifting the trip for christmas so the time to book will decrease... so may over pay...but was part of the game I guess.
Just thought those weird crazy spikes were interesting.
Especially when you also see the price graphs over the last few days/weeks etc.
