DEC 7 Advocate podcast - Rabalais is put on the hot seat by his editor regarding House

Dec 7 - The Advocate podcast - The first thing that was acknowledged by the Advocate's executive sports editor Perryn Keys is that the Matt House situation at LSU has been "the elephant in the room" the one thing they "have been dancing around" and acknowledged they still don't know anything based on what Coach Brian Kelly has stated about House.
Keys then turned to long-time sports columnist Scott Rabalais (Brab) and said, "I'm going to put you on the hot seat, if you were Kelly would you make a change, not just your defensive staff but your defensive coordinator."
Rabalais (Brab) explained how Coach Kelly has let go of two of his assistant coaches in the recent past whom Kelly was very close to. He then noted that LSU just gave Matt House an extension last year, implying that the timing was sort of questionable, LSU's defense wasn't great, "but I can kinda see it you know" why Kelly wanted to do that, to keep House around and not let him go back to the NFL. It all comes down to will Matt House's defensive philosophy help LSU win a championship.
Rabalais then pointed to this year where LSU has a brilliant offense and if it had an average defense, maybe LSU would be 11-1 and they're in the hunt.
Keys then noted, "You still haven't answered my question."
Rabalais responded laughing because he was stalling, "I think there will be changes, but for the fact that he (House) got an extension and he hasn't done anything yet, I think he's gonna keep him.. he's gonna keep him."
Keys then said, "I'm still going to nail you to the wall, that's not what I asked, I asked if you were Coach Brian Kelly would you keep him?
And Rabalais responded, "No! I would move on." but also acknowledged he's not advocating for House to lose his job.
Rabalais also noted that now it's politically difficult to do that, there will be some static, you just went to the board and got House an extension, and now you're going to ask the board to come up with more money to fire him.

My take for what it's worth. We all know that Coach Brian Kelly is very intelligent, so to give House an extension, he obviously saw something in House that impressed him, as did the Kansas City Chiefs. Maybe Kelly fires him, or maybe he gives House another year with new assistants who can deliver elite talent from the portal and high school. Talent that House can work with to build a great defense.

Maybe the Chiefs told House to go look for a job.

House will be retained just long enough for us to go 3-4 in the first 7 games, then let go mid season when we are 120th in total defense.
You can just see it coming

Fans will go NUTS if House is retained!
Too much has been squandered this season alone. CBK can obviously do whatever he wants but the SEC is too competitive not to have a competent DC. With arguably the best offense (minimum 2nd best) we still lost 3 games. The offense will likely take a step back next season. This year we could've gotten away with a middle of the pack defense. Next year, we will likely need a MUCH better defense, at least top 4/5 in the conference.

I can’t think of anything I would want to hear less than porky pig talking on a podcast

I remember TM7 tweeting about House when BK hired him. Seems like it was a positive post and he had spent time around him with the Chiefs. I’m thinking House’s defense and coaching style just doesn’t work for college kids. He had more talent last year and the defense wasn’t great.

So we wait and see if, at this late date “new assistants can deliver elite talent” to bail House out? Again?
Does anybody think it has been House’s job to recruit elite talent?
How has that worked?
This is so stupid.

Its fairly simple. If Kelly keeps his wagon attached to the dead weight long enough, he himself will become the dead weight.
No matter how hard it is, you gotta make a change or the AD will have to.

Possibly the truest thing you've ever posted.

Yep. What happened this year can be blamed on House. If Kelly keeps him, then what happens next year falls squarely on Kelly.

Yea it’s not like the Chiefs have been stalwart of defense.

Then …. Why would you transcribe a conversation between 2 sports gossips that took place on a podcast?
It’s seems strange. Just wait see what happens…we’ll all know what’s gonna happen in a few weeks.

If LSU had an avg. D, they beat Bama in Ttown, and I think we’re 12-0

If Kelly keeps House then Kelly is putting himself on the hot seat because next year will be a disaster. Not saying Kelly would get fired but he would feel the heat.
