In 16 games with LSU, opponents results on opening drives:

5 punts (Purdue, UGA, Ark, New Mexico, Southern)
1 missed FG (FSU 2022)
1 interception (Bama after driving to our 4 yard line)
9 touchdowns

Pathetic!

Do aranda next

And then do chavis in 4th quarter

And then Steele all of 2015 any quarter

In 2021 we only gave up points on the opening drive 3 times. A TD to Kentucky; a FG to Arky and a TD to Kansas State in that joke of a bowl game.

Not sure why this topic is being downvoted. These are facts and it’s hard to argue that it’s good.

First of all you do it. Second, how do you have an opening drive in the fourth quarter?

maybe this isn’t the most significant stat

we only avg 2 sacks a game...

the high water mark is 5 vs Arkansas last year
4 vs. MS State, New Mexico & Purdue

I think it reflects poor game prep, predictability or both. If he can make in game adjustments, great. And he did a number of times last year. It just sets a bad tone imo.

Typically, the opening drive is the worst one for the defense. The offense has scripted 15+ plays that are designed to attack your defense in an unusual way (outside statistical average).

Exactly

You can flip the script by showing some crazy looks on D. You can also get burned.

3rd and more than 4 still killing us

In 2022 and 2023, we do NOT have top talent spread across our defense. Until we have 4 full recruiting classes, that won't change a lot. But, we do have some talent on defense, enough to win most games we play.

We are 11-5 under Kelly-House. We had a losing record over the previous 2 seasons prior to Kelly-House.

Saying all that, we need to improve especially on defense. I believe we will. But what we need MOST is top HS talent recruiting to our defense.

I’m seeing the buzz word “pathetic” so much lately that it has to be an organization talking point.

We got rolled up on in the fourth quarter by FSU. Not good, but definitely fixable. We got 10 points scored on us in the first quarter last week by a team that was taking huge risks breaking tendencies. They got some yards and points. Not good but that got shut down.

Every week will provide an opportunity for the pessimists to “rant”. It’s fun to watch really.

He isn’t doing a great job stacking our D with talent.

It shouldn’t take 4 full cycles if you recruit well and use the transfer portal.

Are we sure this isn’t JD’s fault somehow?

The current talent doesn’t look improved from year one to year two. Our sophomores and juniors don’t look any better.

Ask long as you’re able to make adjustments that’s all that matters. Aranda’s D also had similar issues.

we were 70thin PPG in 2021 and 33rd jn 2022

again, maybe this isn’t the most important stat. a lot off teams script their first few drives and it’s the most effective their offense looks all game.
