Due to massive computer failures Southwest Airlines will cancel a lot if not most of its flights until end of year. If you’re going to Orlando are you having make new travel plans?

If anything you do try to avoid flying southwest if you’re flying . Only thing good about southwest is direct flights . Always fly delta, United and American out of BR .

Flying American out of BTR. Flights don't seem to be affected.

I fly a shite ton for work on all airlines and southwest, while not the nicest, is usually the most convenient and efficient. They have just shite the bed this week.

I wouldn’t fly American Airlines if they give me the damn ticket. If another airline goes out of business, I pray it will be AA. Worse on time, notorious for delays and cancellations.

I’ve never had an issue with them flying local & international. I’m 10 mins from Ryan airport so it’s awesome not having to drive to Nola or deal with Nola airport. Like I said only thing to beat about southwest is direct flights and cost of course . Reminds me of a city bus with wings .

Flown American for two decades 50+ times a year with rarely an issue. Flown southwest four times in the same timeframe with not a single flight on time/schedule. You learn to know what flights to book with any airline is the point

Same. They stranded me twice in DFW due to delays which caused me to miss my connection home. Then tried to make me pay for my own lodging in Dallas though it was entirely their fault.
Screw that company.

I had to cancel my flights on SWA (miles) and am now flying United (miles) out of Houston Bush. I'm not a fan of the construction at Bush, but I'll deal with it

Yes, been that way for a long time. They win awards for best airline in the US just about every year. They're just a bit pricier. You get what you pay for though.

Read an article on this earlier. Long and short of it, Southwest just simply hasn't updated their technology at all, or at least not near where their competitors are. They have flight crews and have planes, but their system is jacked up so they have to assign each crew to each flight individually, and it takes a long time because they have to vett each crew every single time.

Part of a statement from the Southwest CEO:

quote:

...we had to ask our Crew Schedulers to do this manually, and it’s extraordinarily difficult. They must verify that you are legal. They can’t just have the next person up, so to speak. They have to look through everyone’s board and reassign. So that is a tedious, long process. And every day we try to repair the Crew network. They would make great progress, and then some other disruption would happen, and it would unravel their work. So, we spent multiple days where we kind of got close to finishing the problem, and then it had to be reset.

SW cancelled our flight home yesterday at the last minute and had to drive almost 10 hours to get home in a rental.

Would not trust them for this weekend, they are still in flight cancellation mode today. Some flights for tomorrow into Nola or Orlando already getting cancelled, for example.

Normally they are dependable but this has been an epic debacle.
