What did you guys expect

We're pulling together about 40 new players.
New coaching staff, new systems. All of which takes some time and trial by fire to fully implement.
If you were paying attention, it was clear the OL was having issues. We have a true freshman starting at Tackle. Moved a tackle to center a few weeks ago who can't snap.
Our RBs are a guy who couldn't cut it at Penn St., a guy who can't stay eligible, a former walk on, and one good scholarship player who hasn't proven anything.
TEs needs to have a true freshman step up, and he will make mistakes.
WR is the only position on offense you can point to as in good shape, and they shat the bed last night for the most part. Our supposed two best had terrible games.
Denbrook did not call a good game, but its hard to tell because the OL was terrible and the QB doesn't know how to go past his first read.
On defense, the DL was supposed to be full of monsters but last night were mostly mice. Losing Smith is a huge blow, likely for the year. How many plays was the DL making? Particularly on passing downs?
Did any LBs play last night? Didn't see them.
We have a lot of new faces in the defensive backfield. Also played a decent amount of zone last night. I saw several instances were a guy was pulled to the wrong player and opened up space behind him for an easy throw. .
I have no idea what House was thinking with the coverages, particularly on third and short. Its as if we just hoped they would drop a pass and that was our defense.
But to put it all in perspective, we didn't hire coach Kelly to beat FSU, we hired him to build the program back to excellence. Something which isn't possible for game 1 this week. Lets see how this teams learns and grows this season. Lets see how they improve. Lets see how the squad starts being built through recruiting.

But the Rant said 10-2 was the floor.

1 bad snap and the center can't snap the ball?

I expected a head coach who didn’t look overwhelmed and lost in his first game. I expected a team that was coached well enough to overcome their other weaknesses and not embarrass themselves against an ACC dumpster fire on national TV.
What did you see?
Sure, LSU can turn it around. But I’m pretty disappointed after this opener. It’s like buying a
mega yacht that won’t start. Lotta of money spent to not go anywhere

First there was more than one bad one - just only one that got away from the QB. Several others were difficult grabs by Daniels and at least one other changed the play (Daniel's wasn't able to hand off and had to take off running).
Second - Brian Kelly mentioned it multiple times last in fall camp that it was still a struggle but he was improving.

I expected more discipline. Didn’t expect to see a perfect team by any means but just a more disciplined team. The team isn’t an ounce sharper or more disciplined than they were with Coach O

Play calling / game plan on offense and defense looked terrible - and didn’t improve or adjust effectively. Maybe it’s due to personnel, but I assumed going into the game that coaching would be a strength not a weakness.

Why do we always think a bad 6-7 team from last year will be competing for championiships the next year....especially with new players and coaches.

This OP gets it! Excellent write up.

Several bad snaps and bad protection calls that were obvious. Center does more than snap the ball.

Really? 1 bad drop by Boutte. The rest of the passes in the first 3 Qs weren’t anywhere near a receiver.

The inability of a large segment of this god forsaken fanbase to understand this is legitimately shocking

Sure we’d have all liked it to start off looking better and with a W, but the job in front of Kelly is massive and hopefully the reality of that is clear to more people now.
How did the month of September go for our last few coaches?

This program is exponentially worse off right now than what those guys took over.

People keep saying this….seemed to me that he was diagnosing the state of the team.
He looked more clinical than lost….kind of the way a surgeon looks at someone who just got messed up in a car wreck. Because that’s the state of this team currently.

Rewatch the game dude. He had 3 drops that hit him in the hands/body before he caught his first pass.
And he gave up on several routes.

1. I expect in the future we do not play a quality opponent the first game who has already played a game.
2. I expect to find a punt returner that can catch a punt under stress and I don't care if he can squiggle gaggle for a thousand yard td.
3. I expect any player not giving 100% to be benched.
4. I expect some running plays not up the middle.
5. I expect whatever caused the blocked extra points to be fixed. Whether it was kicked too low, or late, or missed assignments.

Blah Blah. We were 2 1/2 point favorites. Win the games we are supposed too. That’s what I expect
