All you need to know about the potential of John Emery

He average 4.8 yards per carry his first year and 5.0 his second year… He’s lightning in a bottle and the homerun hitter at RB we’ve been missing.

The hopium is real. Emery has all the physical tools to be great, but some guys are just to fragile to carry a team for any length of time. This isn’t a knock on Emery, as I’ve seen amazing athletes that are to fast and strong for their own joint, ligaments. I think he will be great for a few games, and then break down. Do I hope I’m wrong, yep, but it’s crucial to have some depth at that position if history has anything to say about it…

I just don’t get the infatuation with Emery. Outside of one fluke run against Bama he’s done absolutely nothing.
Sure, it would be fantastic if he FINALLY broke out and lived up to just a little of the hype. But at this point I don’t it ever happens.
Still not convinced he will ever actually see the field again.

The OL has been shite the last two years and only started getting to below average towards the end of this season. Emery will do much better with competent coaches

Everyone on this board should be stoked about these new hires from top to current. From the S/C staff on. This particular staff overhaul will be one to watch. Unless you have linemen physically ready to compete in the SEC, you can forget it. Hester and TOBY were crying for a week when they let Moffitt go. That needed to happen because LSU was at or near the bottom as to being soft at the Los. It's going to be fun watching how the new LSU evolves.

Running back by committee does not give you a rhythm . Five touches a game between four backs was pathetic. When CEH and Guice was pounding the ball we were rolling .

I'll speak for myself. My infatuation is based on the fact that he has some undeniably elite gifts...speed/vision/elusiveness. While it's true that he hasn't done much in an LSU uniform, the potential is undeniable. He may never live up to the potential but potential means that if he "maxes" out, he will be a difference-maker. This kid CAN be a difference-maker. Will he be? Who knows but if he works hard and stays eligible, he'll likely be the lead RB with a chance to shine.

I mean he’s averaged 5 yards a carry both years. For comparison, Alvin Kamara has averaged 4.7 yards a carry for his entire NFL career.

A RB who cannot/will not effectively pass block will have little or no PT in next year's LSU offense, as long as Brennan is the QB.
We are deep in WR talent ( a little light on experience, except for Boutte and Jenkins) and we will be a passing team primarily.
You can give Emery a trophy for potential, but he hasn't yet lived up to the hype and next year does not set up for him, IMO even if he is finally ready to shine.

Honest question: is he eligible now ?
Posted on 1/1/22 at 11:14 am to NamariTiger
He didn’t come to LSU to play school.

Emery is still a mystery.

A good back but not sec physical. The bigger issue will be the development of the oline along with every other position. Player development has not happened for years overall. LSU has had to depend on too many freshmen over the years.

Fans criticize when they leave and criticize when they remain loyal.
Betcha some Ohio St fans were criticizing Burrow when he left.

Emery checks all the boxes except picking up the blitz, pass blocking and receiving. That takes desire and motivation. The guy from Michigan State RB , Emery can have his year with desire and maturity.

Many Buckeye fans said that Burrow wouldn’t amount to anything and that LSU is where quarterbacks go to die.
