But that's not Baylor's problem. They're scared shitless that the conference would disintegrate and they'd be left in the cold.

They did the same thing last year. Here's an email from a Baylor regent that was sent to the Texas legislature last year when the realignment seemed possible.

LINK

quote:

We cannot let the other schools in Texas (A&M, U.T., Tech) leave the Big XII WITHOUT BAYLOR BEING INCLUDED IN THE PACKAGE. Long and short - if U.T., A&M and Tech demand that any move to any other conference include ALL TEXAS BASED TEAMS from the Big XII, we are golden. We need to be in a PACKAGE DEAL!

The Baylor higher-ups who are pushing so hard with these campaigns are embarrassing the hell out of their university. If I were a Baylor grad, I'd honestly be ashamed.

Why is he just now coming up with this? Where was it when NU and CU announced? Why does it take coming to this before he thinks (or is thought for) outside the box?

A&M leaving won't kill the Big 12. Just ask Dan Beebe.

They're deluded if they think keeping A&M in a league where they're determined to get out will keep the league viable.

If anything else, it will encourage A&M to kill the league from within IMHO.

The TV contract is voided if the league drops below 10. That's why they want to stay at 10. 10 is also the easiest for OU and Texas to reach the National Championship game.

Good. I don't want A&M. They suck.

IMHO, Beebe is horrible at spin.

This was a way of saying "Fine, we don't need you" in the hopes that A&M would stay. It backfired.

Thanks. Do you think the lawsuit (legal posturing) helped VT get into the ACC?

Texas Tech is far too to the West in sheer mileage for any other SEC fanbase to want visit, too barren a boring landscape, and brings no major market, before Leach or Knight..name me one TT athletic exploit you remember?..

Sheryl Swoopes single-handedly leading TT to the women's title.

But you're right, it's not a good pick. Better than Baylor, though.

Quidam, I thought about pointing out Swoopes. FTR, her son is a big football recruit for the c/o 2013 I believe.

And fun fact, Tech hasn't beat A&M in ANY sport since October 2008.

Just to correct you, their medical school is going bankrupt and was about to be sold to Rice, so I wouldn't list that as a positive for them right now

Plus they couldn't even run their dental school. The Baylor College of Dentistry, despite its name, is in reality a Texas A&M System component and has been since the 1970's.

That's it! A&M should offer to take over Baylor's failing med school in lieu of an exit fee!

Everyone wins! Baylor doesn't have to pour more money down the sinkhole -- A&M gets to spend the exit fee $$$ on getting the school back to fiscal solvency!

I remember seeing that thread on TexAgs. Even more fun was the comparisons in terms of academic prowess.

Is Swoopes' son leaning toward Tech?

I'm not sure where he's leaning. It's still early. I think he plays QB. I'm on the cell or I would look it up. I think his last name is Swoopes. I haven't delved too deep into 2013 recruiting yet outside of the few early A&M commits.

Baylor only got in the Big 12 because of Ann Richards.
Common misconception. Ann swung her dick around, but Baylor was probably getting in anyway. Being that UT and A&M were the two most obvious selections from Texas, and being that two other schools were sought after, Texas Tech seemed to be an obvious next choice, so they were in. Then it was down to TCU/SMU/Rice/BU/UH. Baylor and Houston were the only two at the time who seemed to have any capability at all of sustaining a successful athletic program. Baylor had a much larger fan base, whereas Houston was and still is a commuter school with virtually no fans. Also, in the last five years of the SWC, Baylor went 21-15; Houston went 9-26-1.

The truth is that Baylor was perfectly deserving of their Big 12 invite; Houston was not.

AND, I have no problem with Baylor being in the SEC if only because it further de-isolates LSU.

Aggies will tell you, "Don't let the last decade fool you." A&M has sucked in the past decade, but we all know that they're capable of much better things than they've shown us recently. The same can be said for Baylor. They were always competitive until the Big 12 formed; and they're perfectly capable of being competitive. Not elite, but respectable.

I would like to see aTm, Baylor, OSU, Mizzu, Arky, MSU, Ole Miss and LSU in the West. Move AU and UA to the east. That way AU can play UGA every year. UA can play UTe every year. There that solves that problem.

Baylor is not and has never been associated with the Southern Baptist Convention. I think it is affiliated with the Texas General Baptist Convention, loosely.

At one time they had a world class law school, dental, medical and nursing but not enough endowment to continue the medical branch.

And I am pretty sure Baylor is the only school in the nation that killed some ags at a football riot for what it's worth so don't get them Baptists too riled lol.

I don't think so. From my understanding, the following factors had greater effect on VT getting in the ACC:

1) The pressure applied by then Governor Warner of Virginia upon UVA and the ACC to admit VT.

2) UVA's encouragement of admitting VT (largely due to the prodding by Warner).

3) The firm stance of Clemson, Georgia Tech, and most of all Florida State that the ACC should admit prominent football schools to raise the level of ACC football.
