Why did this happen to the Big 12?

They were pretty consistently the 2nd best football conference in the country for the last 10 years. Why did they dissolve before the Big East or ACC?

Their TV contract was shite $$$ wise.

Wacky distribution of revenue.

Because their commissioner sided with Delaney on the playoff issue and then Delaney fricked him in the arse.

1. so-so tv deal
2. huge, powerful alpha dog program
3. it's not even a real conference with any solid history. it's a combination of 2 old conferences

revenue sharing? i don't see why they didn't just wait until their current tv contract expired to renegotiate for a better deal.

IMHO, a messed-up balance of power in the league, members who absolutely hated each other, and having programs good enough to be courted by better conferences.
The Big East's saving grace is that no one is serious about stealing any program there but Rutgers, who has the NYC TV market.

Apparently Tom Osborne ran shite. Once he decided to make the move all hell broke loose.

Texas gobbled up the majority of the revenue and the other schools felt like they were getting shafted.

I feel it has to do with the fact Texas holds all the cards... this is the second conference they have failed in.... Let's see if it becomes 3 for 3

Texas got a bigger piece of the pie and the big 10 started waving more money at teams.

But Texas created by far the most revenue. They earned that share of revenue.
