That's bs. I was there, as were many WVU fans. I actually sat in the middle of the LSU section though as I had good seats.
WVU made the FF in hoops 2 years ago and has an excellent basketball program-which the SEC could use. WVU spanked Mizzou head to head in hoops in the NCAA's.
In football WVU was very good under RROD, and will be very good again under Dana Holgerson. Stew was a regretable hire that set the program back briefly, but Tiger fans with longer memories understand that(recall dinardo and those years?)
WVU has a passionate fan base, and is dedicated to football. Fervent describes WVU and football. Similar to clemson, who also would be a good addition to the SEC.
When you have a core group of passionate fans you know the program may take a dip, but will never be down too long. WVU will benefit immensely from being in the SEC. recruiting in Virginia, DC, and surrounding area will pick up dramatically. That will help WVU and the SEC brand. It will ultimately hurt VT, PSU, and competing brands.

It's the principal of the matter.

Trashy northern students from PA and Jersey? No thanks. They'll be the laughing stock of the SEC.

People keep talkin about this North vs South. Do people honestly think the coaches and players care about things like that.lol. Doubt if any football players are like "na we don't want WV/Mizzou in the SEC cuz they have students from up north, they don't represent the southside."

I would much rather see a Clemson or GaTech come into the league. I know...I know....SEC is trying to not go inot states where they already have one or more teams....This is just my own opinion.

Sounds like the majority of SEC fans don't want any part of WVU joining the conf. That's fine, I think WVU is a better fit in the ACC geographically and natural rivals with VT, UMD, etc.
Hopefully this WVU to the SEC talk will quiet down.

Yall can't call us hillbillies anymore.

Seriously though, I don't like it. I would rather Mizzou I guess.

UNC
VaTech
OU
in no particular order.

I work with a couple of WVU grads and they are as passionate about their football as anyone. That said, Morgantown is closer to Pittsburgh than anywhere else, which was not really a SEC town last time I checked. If "passion for football" is the new criteria, then I guess Ohio State and Nebraska are in play, too.
I wouldn't be upset if they came in, but I wouldn't want to be on all those flights to Pittsburgh with the women's soccer team, either.

Yeah, the couch-burning is part of it, although Ohio State fans are in the same category in that regard.
shite like this really pisses me off. It happened once. 9 years ago. WVU does it every third saturday. WTF.

WVU actually wins BCS bowl games against SEC teams, too!

Why all the hate for west virginia?

You sound like every other WVU fan I've ever met. Convinced that your team is feared throughout the land.

Obviously. However, I'm sure we'll hear all about how "scared" we were to take you when you end up in the ACC.

Not saying I want WVU in the SEC, but I can relate to their fans more than most of our other OOC opponent fans. I'm saying I like them. They seem like good peoples.

this was same UGA team that beat LSU badly in same building(georgia dome).
WVU can hang with the best of SEC. As LSU will see in Morgantown this year. But WVU will only get BETTER in the SEC. Obviously WVU at this point is not elite like many of the SEC teams, but WVU is 15th in nation in merchandise sales, and adds a new state, pittsburgh market(more so than Pitt), part of DC, and area surrounding wva.

They want in IMO. They also claim that with the recruiting advantage they would be competitive fairly quickly.
(I also like the fact that their fan forum is called We Must Ignite This Couch)

None here. I actually feel for WVU trying to play big boy football in a basketball conference. They are a turd in the punchbowl of that crappy conference. I think they would be a good cultural fit, and also gets the SEC into different markets.

If WVU is a real possibility and we are talking a 16 team league, Pitt should also be considered. The schools are less than 100 miles apart and the SEC would break into a new market.

No. Does pitt even have fans? In all reality wvu would be a good option.

They made their decision in 1861.
