Penn State moves out.

You can't have the 3 best teams, historically, in the same division.

I would say its a distinct possibility. Penn st would not be happy having to play all of their division games 500 miles from hope in Nebraska, Iowa and Minnesota I would guess. Penn St's biggest rivalry is with OSU (or Michigan) which they've said they want to preserve.

East: PSU, OSU, MSU, UM, IU, Purdue
West: NE, IA, MN, WI, NW, IL

But doing it this way wouldn't be bad for football, but would make the East ridiculous for basketball.

I don't think the Big 10 should make it about Geography.

They should make it:
Big Ten Six Shooters
OSU
Northwestern
Nebraska
Minnesota
Iowa
Purdue

Big 10 Six Pack
Michigan
Penn St.
Indiana
Illinois
Wisconsin
Michigan St.

Protected rivalries would be:

OSU/Michigan
Iowa/Wisconsin
Penn St./Nebraska
Indiana/Northwestern
Purdue/Illinois
Minnesota/Michigan St.

I'd be fine with that lineup - conference championship game every year

But it is the most fair imo. No way can you have Penn St., Michigan and Ohio St. in the same division. This way, OSU and MIchigan still play every year with the possibility of meeting again in the conference championship game.

OSU-Michigan should be played only once a year.

I don't think the Big Ten goes after anyone now that they have Nebraska. I think adding them got Notre Dame's attention and the Big Ten knows it. If Notre Dame joins the Big Ten, they could regularly play Ohio St., Michigan, Penn St. and Nebraska, in addition to keeping their annual meetings with Michigan St. and Purdue. That schedule is way more consistent with how they've traditionally scheduled throughout the years; playing UConn, Nevada and Wazzu recently should embarrass the Irish fans that boast their independent status.

As for Missouri and Rutgers, they fit in with the Big Ten's academic profile, but their athletic programs would do nothing but water down the conference.

ND has no incentive. NOW They have to get to 9-3 and top 14 to get a BCS bid.

If they are in the big ten, they have win the Big 10 and in the process beat all or nearly all of
The sweater of Ohio State AND
Joe PA and
Iowa and now Nebraska,
to get into the BCS game.

What part of that is so appealing?

Which would be the same as if ND was in the Big Ten.

Sprint, I saw a cool one for if the Big Ten goes to 16 teams, where the "I" and "G" in "Big Ten" become a "1" and "6".

The only thing though is that only 2 Big10 schools could go to the BCS...so for example if ND had Penn St's record last year they could have gone to a BCS game by being independent, whereas in the Big10 they would have been third. I think that's right without researching it.

Actually Penn St. could have been picked over Iowa for the Orange Bowl last year even though Iowa beat Penn St. in their house and had a much harder schedule. So I'm sure ND would have been picked over Iowa last year for the second BCS spot.

they are plays to make more money with the Big 10 cable network - and probably pretty savvy ones

And with the filler teams already there they don't really water it down much if at all (Texas will tell you it's not all that bad to have an easier route to teh NCG anyway)

The Big 10 +1 +1 wants Notre Dame. I think they will destabilize the Big East by inviting Syracuse and Rutgers. Syracuse leaving may well weaken the Big East to the point that Notre Dame comes over to protect its other sports. They then add Missouri and now they are at 16. The SEC will then expand and it will be the Big whatever and the SEC as the big dogs.

the Conference Championship game will almost certainly be held at Lucas Oil Stadium in Indy I would say for sure.

Unlike the SEC, they will probably be smart enough to move it around. There's the Lions' stadium in Detroit, as well as the Metrodome in Minneapolis and Soldier Field in Chicago.

Why not? They play the Michigan-Ohio State game a week earlier outdoors in Ann Arbor or Columbus.
