This morning OrangeBloods.com/Rivals is reporting that Texas is considering a plan by Big 12 commisioner Dan Beebe's plan for keeping the conference together with 10 schools. Central to the plan are: 1) a new TV contract (in 2011) that would increase per-school payouts from $7-$10 million to $17 million (on par with the SEC) and 2) in a major concession to UT, freedom for schools to establish their own TV networks.

Who knows if this is a last-ditch pipe dream by a doomed commissioner or a brilliantly conceived Hail Mary TD pass. But it does make for another intriguing episode in this sports-fan soap opera.

Honestly, I still think aTm is the lynch pin. I think they truly want to be in the SEC and want to break from UT...as does UT want to break away from aTm. This will be interesting play on Tuesday.

Honestly, how the eff are they going to get SEC type money? They are negotiating from a point of extreme weakness with ESPN, FOX, whomever.

here's the thing,, A&M keeps trying to find a way to be a big as TEXAS,, they never will be,

The Horns will always be the Cowboys and the Ags will always be the OILERS/Texans

UT dominates this state and A&M will always be second,, SO while a move might get them into another division at best its gives aggies the chance to chant SEC SEC SEC following a season the Horns lose a big game to an SEC team

sad,, the aggies will always be obsessed with the Horns and Texas barely notices

This might actually play out..

If Texas A&M has agreed and now OU is now strongly rethinking the move to the Pac-10 because they don't fit with the culture either; no way Texas goes to the Pac-10 with only OSU and Tech..

The only other choice is to fix the Big 12, which I'm starting to think will become more and more likely..

I think Texas would be extremely interested in doing this. Unless the PAC10 would counter with the same offer.

I wouldn't be surprised at all if the big 12 just restrctured. Makes much more sense than anything I have heard.

Good question and I should have specified more. I'm just basing this on general fan response on the boards. I think many of the UT fans are starting to want out from aTm. I don't believe UT officials do because they don't want a SEC invasion in Texas. UT fans truly believe they are untouchable and would never admit to needing aTm to follow them to the Pac10.

all you need to do if find ONE network willing to pay

UT alone is a serious commodity,, I laugh at how yall are so proud of the SEC TV contract and yet are oblivious that these things get negotiated and renegotiated all the time and the $$$ always goes up

who would jump to give the big 12 that kind of contract?

with nebraska and colorado leaving the conference got even more regional. If anything you'd wonder if they end up making less money per school in the long run

It was A LOT more money then the TV deals done just two years before it. The Big 10 network and the SEC tv deal are the drivers for other conferences to try and make more money.

and the next one will be bigger, its not the overall #,,its the per team payout.

AND if texas can do there own thing with other sports,, its a no brainer,,

and OU/OSU/aTm dont leave if texas stays IMO

But the Big 12 matchups are even worse with Nebraska leaving. OU and UT are only worth so much. Half the conference with Baylor, Iowa State, K State, KS, and Mizzou won't bring SEC type money. Texas and OU would make more money going to the Pac 10 with what's left of the Big 12 lineup.
