Theres also a lot of room to add on to there current stadium

I agree. It looks like there is ample room to build onto their stadium and in 2004 they did some renovations.

They expanded the press box, 140 club seats and associated club lounge, private suites, new stadium seating (northwest end zone), ADA enhancements, updated restrooms, concessions and stadium operation facilities, new banquet facilities, and renovated locker room facilities.

Best suggestion heard yet! Being prior military, I would love a service academy into the SEC!

While they could hold their own in football, the other sports which play in the Patriot League would be a disaster.

I live in the area so I'd be in heaven if that happened.

mildly ironic reading this thread as a notre dame fan considering the barrage of shite they take each year for playing navy.

not a bad idea. navy would bring a national following and have played nothing but solid football the last few years. there are certainly worse options we could end up with.

It won't do any good to write the SEC (Slive is squarely on top of expansion IMO), but it can't hurt to let them know that many fans support the move....

quote:

I am writing to voice my support for Navy to be considered as the SEC’s 14th team when the conference moves to complement the Texas A&M addition. Navy has a large national following, would expand the SEC’s footprint nationally and into Maryland, and would be a perfect Eastern Division addition to complement A&M’s addition in the Western Division.

I, like many SEC fans, am excited about the addition of Texas A&M. That said, I would prefer that the SEC proceed slowly and methodically throughout this expansion process so as not to “disturb” the current landscape of the SEC. I believe that an addition of A&M in the West and Navy in the East would preserve all of the SEC’s current longstanding rivalries and also add value to the league with the new rivalries that will be created upon A&M and Navy’s addition to the league. By adding one marquee name in the West and one marquee name in the East, the SEC will continue to lead college football into the future.

For all the reasons above, I urge you to consider Navy as the expansion process continues.

I like the idea too. I definitely prefer Navy over Mizzou or WV.

Texas A&M still retains a Corps of Cadets, including two Naval divisions, which produces more military officers than any school outside the service academies.

Never knew this but thats awesome. Go A&M.

their small stadium size could pose a problem for football

I bet SEC could negotiate a deal to play their conference games in Landover (FedEx Field) and/or Baltimore (M&T Bank Stadium). Both are less than an hour away from Annapolis and easy for flights.

Go Navy.

Let's see.........Navy joins the SEC, but Texas wouldn't touch the league with 10 feet of anything.........Sounds to me that the U.S. Naval Academy has terrible academic standards.

I absolutely love this idea...if we go to 14 bring in A&M and Navy...if we bring in 16...bring in A&M, Navy, Virginia Tech, & NC State.

Wow, that is a really interesting idea and I think it makes a good bit of sense. I think the SEC fans would embrace the move (they would instantly be most fans second favorite SEC team), it expands our footprint and Navy has a decent national following that could only be increased by playing in the SEC. And good academics of course.

Cons are their small stadium and relatively small fan support. Jumping all the way to Maryland is a bit of a stretch travel-wise (unless we were going to get a Virginia or NC team also). I have no idea how their other sports are.

Overall it is definitely an interesting choice and IMO better than many of the other names we have heard tossed around.

The reason I like Navy is because it doesn't bring in a "premier" team that just makes the league unbearable with powers, but Navy is still a sexy name with tradition that definitely brings something unique to the league.

And I don't agree with the people that say Navy couldn't compete in the SEC. Could they win it and be consistently good? Probably not, but that's one thing IMO that makes them a great addition. They'd be competitive and provide some interesting rivalries without everyone having to worry about adding a power like Oklahoma, FSU, or VaTech.

Many are saying Navy to the SEC will never happen, and they're probably right, but I'm definitely in favor of it.

I prefer West Virginia if we can't get FSU or Va. Tech in the East.
