Vandy Vice Chancellor: "We may be at 13 for couple of years"

ETA: Updated because McMurphy lied to me... dude is vice chancellor of athletics, not the AD.

Question: Is Missouri a good fit for the 14th school, and if not, who would be?
DW: The factors to deal with that 14th team are well beyond anything that any one person could think about. There are so many things involved. On a Monday, state university ‘B’ would be a good one, but then you find out their conference is doing this. State university ‘C’ then becomes the next one you try. Trust me. People say, ‘Well, you’ve already got a 14th team (lined up).’ We don’t. I could see pros and cons on just about anything you suggest as another team. This is a process. That’s why I think we may be at 13 for a couple of years.

That's a pretty meaningless statement. Even if they don't come will not indicate that he was signaling anything.

He mentioned the ACC exit fee more than once in the interview...
quote:
The ACC raises its exit fee to $20 million. So while there may be a team in there that says, ‘OK, that (conference change) would be good,’ what about the $20 million? Who’s going to pay that? There are a whole lot of issues that didn’t exist a month ago that now exists as it relates to who might become that 14th team. And a month from now, there may be even more issues.

Vandy does not have an AD...

Seems like Vandy has been expansion since Day 1, including making some comments about not expanding past 12 earlier this summer, so I'm not sure how much stock I'd put into their comments.

Brett McMurphy's first tweet called him the AD. I updated the OP to reflect that he is actually Vice Chancellor of Athletics.
Duly noted...

MO hasn't been in this process as long as A&M and it will take a sort of leap of faith to make the move. I do not believe that the SEC will publicly court them. There may be some smoke signals, but they may not be familiar with the language. They will need to take the first step and exit the Big 12, like you guys did and wait for the offer. That's a tough call if you don't have some history with the folks you're dealing with.

This will frick up scheduling so bad
Damn you A&M

easy for him to say...his school doesn't have to play in a 7 team SEC west.

Not if you put Mizzou in the EAST.
Look at a map, it isn't that much of a difference.
IF Mizzou comes, I hope this is what happens.

Agreed that would be best if it happens

Either there is a massive fail on the fourteenth team or that was a pretty inartful dodge of the question. A direct answer would be that the obvious choices are having problems or misgivings about leaving their current conferences and we can't agree on the fallback choices.
Everyone knows that if the SEC winks at WVU, they are going to disrobe on the spot. It wouldn't surprise me at all if Vandy led the opposition against WVU.

Vandy also acted as if A&M wasn't a done deal, and that the SEC indeed wasn't expanding....and that was a few weeks ago.

you do realize that would probably mean Mizzou would be A&Ms permanent division rival (if that even remains part of the scheduling)

probably not a bad deal for either team tho - MU gets to still play a game against a Texas team every year and A&M gets a reasonable but not superpower opponent

oh I wouldnt mind them being our permanent. Their fans have always treated me well and I like Columbia.
I can just see a small but vocal group of cry babies on TexAgs who would bitch to the high heavens about it.

Makes sense, but it's still better than getting Vandy or Kentucky. Kentucky is usually a team that you don't get much credit for beating, but always play a very physical game. Vandy used to have a great tradition of tough defenses, but not so much anymore.
