I agree...what des WVU bring to the SEC? Burning couches!
I'd rather Louisville, South Florida or TCU from the disintegrating Big East.

I doubt the SEC will take UH. that would saturate the Houston Market and their fans don't show up for games anymore.

I don't see either Kansas or UConn getting left out. Their b-ball programs alone (esp. UConn on both men's and women's) are a draw.

B1G has been very quiet. Mizzou, Kansas, Rutgers, UConn to make it 16 for them?

baylor just brings NOTHING to the table for any conf!

Other than a huge endowment, competitive in all sports save football (5th in Big 12 titles), solid academics, private school status to help you avoid pesky disclosure laws, 2 national titles in the last decade, and rich people who politically plugged in among the alumni.

So other than being good at sports and having lots of money, Baylor adds nothing. But God, do they suck at football.

Baylor's not a great get, but they have a lot of value -- particularly compared to the dregs of the Big 12 and Big East. None of these schools are Michigan in disguise.

I don't know that WV fits in the SEC, but really who does?

I look at what Slive has done over the years with the SEC and he is way to smart of a guy to just be sitting back watching.

I would think that Slive has already made some contacts and gauged intrest from other schools. Once this thing starts "which it looks like it has now" The SEC will make it's move.

Who it will be is anyones guess...it may come out of left field just like Pitt and SU leaving the Big East today.

exactly, saturate the 3rd largest market in the US

Have a conference schedule that includes A&M, LSU, Bama, Arkansas and they will. And even if they don't, their opponents will sell out the stadium.

UH has potential. no doubt. we'll see how it plays out.

I remember reading that there were talks between the SEC with A*M + UH as a package deal in '94.

There is some truth to this. Houston fans don't go to Cougar games because they would be watching CUSA football (Houston v. Tulsa -- catch it!). You have to look at what they would draw playing games people might actually care about.

I'm not all-in for Houston, but I do believe the would draw a lot better in the SEC. Of course, they'd have to start winning a little bit. No one is showing up for a 1-10 team every season.

Baloo I would agree with you except this entire thing going on right now with the conference shake up is all based on Football. Football is king!

Outside of BR most people don't know about LSU baseball, track, gymnastics....but, they all know they won the BCS in 07.

The 5 conferences that will be left SEC, ACC, PAC, Big 10/12, and either Big "East or 12" are after football programs and TV markets. Baylor offers neither.

All the other sports and rich doners aren't high on anyones list right now.

I disputed the comment they add nothing. They add something, but they are a terrible football program. Though, historically, better than Tech, KSU, Kansas, and ISU. Which is really, really sad. The Big 12 has a plethora of awful football programs.

We're not comparing Baylor against Michigan, but fellow "leftovers" like ISU or Rutgers.

Ok..in terms of just leftovers they are middle of the pack.

I think the Big East still has a better shot at survival then the Big12 based on all the hate and discontent. It is 10 schools all waiting to stab each other in the back.

So i think it leaves the Big 12 schools looking for a home.

OU/OSU probably Pac12
A&M SEC
TX possibly IND./PAC12
MIZZU SEC/BIG10+2

Leaving UK,KSU,TX Tech,ISU,Baylor

UK fits Big East
KSU probably follows UK
TX Tech PAC12/Big East probably where ever TX goes

ISU and Baylor left out...out of those 2 Baylor has more to offer.

I just don't see Baylor having anything to offer a BCS conference that would make them appealing enough for someone to pick them up.

Yeah, Baylor is clearly unwanted by the Pac-XX. The ACC and Big Ten won't go that far out of their region for such a marginal team. the SEC has no interest, obviously, and they are the only regional conference if the Big 12 collapses.

Which is why Baylor is so fanatical about holding the Big 12 together. It's a simple matter of survival. They have no other options. Well, unless there is a Big East/Big 12 merger, but that's on the same lines of saving the Big 12.

Well i think it's pretty clear the big 4 are safe from poachers. No one is going to leave the SEC,Big10, PAC12, or ACC.

The Big East and Big 12 are going to get raped over the next 2 weeks and i think in the end we might see a Big East Big 12 leftover merger...it would be a weak arse conference...probably would lose BCS if the BCS survives as is.

Last year was their first losing season in the last six years, I think they would be better off than when the Gamecocks joined.

Plus it would be nice if they would rotate the SECCG between Reliant & the GA Dome.

To keep up the Baylor analogy, they had winning season in 8 of the previous 10 years before joining the Big 12. We see how that turned out.

It's too tough to judge Houston's quality upon joining the conference.

Here is another question to go with the Big East/ Big 12 pending collapse.

Do you see one of the Mid-majors going after some of these schools to jump to 14 or 16 and take a BCS AQ bid from one of the two defunct conf?

This could leave the Boise’s and Huston’s already sitting in BCS conferences.

They'd have to abandon the dregs of their conference. We can rip on ISU or Baylor for their football, but they are still miles ahead of the average non-ACQ team. I'm watching Wyoming-Bowling Green right now (Mrs. Baloo went to BGSU for grad school) and these teams suuuuuuuuuuuuck. And BGSU is 2-0!

But there are some mid-majors who would be looking to get in on the ground floor of a new conference.

From C-USA: Houston, Southern Miss, UCF, East Carolina

From MWC: Boise, Colorado St, New Mexico, Air Force

They should at least be working the phones right now. Same with BYU and Notre Dame, who can pretty much call their own shots.

So, folks, imagine for a moment your team is one of the following:

BigEast LEFT-OUTs
Louisville
Cincinnati
Rutgers
UConn
USF
TCU (on track to join BigEast for 2012)

OR of one of these:

The Big12-2-1-XX:
Iowa State
Kansas State
Baylor
Texas Tech (a maybe, but likely nervous as can be)
Kansas (who thought the BigEast was a good landing spot)
Missouri (who can't woo its #1 B1G, might not be able to woo #2 SEC, and who thought the BigEast would be a good consolation prize)

That would make a mediocre conference, but it would probably still have a B(C)S autobid for two reasons. First, it would operate under the existing Big East or Big XII banner. Second, if you only have 64 AQ teams, that's not a strong enough majority to prevent NCAA legislation. The WAC is calling teams up from I-AA and in a few years the AQs might be outnumbered. Better to let that fifth conference in just to be safe.

Umm.... Baylor is leaking money like a sieve into their healthcare network and medical schools and they're looking to sell them to anyone because they're over half a billion dollars in debt:
LINK

They've also shown they won't spend money on athletics to achieve success, even when it's flowing in from the BCS gravy-train (to which they contributed nothing competitively or fiscally).

Oh and Waco sucks, as do baptists that don't dance or drink.

I'm an old traditionalist facing the fact grandfather/shirt-tail teams are destined to move on to where they probably belonged in the first place.
