Texas A&M has severely screwed Texas in this expansion. A&M to the SEC has hung Texas out to dry. You know the high-ups at A&M are loving every second of this. Nebraska doesn't want Texas in the Big 10 that's why they left and the geography of adding Texas to the Pac-10 is so ridiculous it defies logic. Oregon State, Washington State, Cal-Berkley, Oregon, & Washington fans don't want to travel to Austin, Texas. The economics of such a move are beyond ridiculous especially when the California & Arizona state schools are already under a severe budget crunch as it is.

Longhorn fans will fit in just fine at the 30 minute wine-and-cheese tailgate parties they have for a whole 30 minutes before kick-off in the PAC-10.

the tailgating scene is by far very different but there are a couple who do it as well as those laws allow or the space that they have. Some places just don't allow certain things. What can you do? Just remember, sports is a very different animal in the south.

Texas won't improve their recruiting in Texas going to the PAC 10. They won't get many CA or FL kids, either. And if A&M comes to the SEC they'll start hammering on the idea that they'll play most of their games within driving distance of home. In a conference that didn't just get the reigning king sentenced to death.

We're so over the top with our campus image, that it has been hard to expand our campus football stadium that is in a mini-valley because of possible tree loss and actually seeing the stadium through the trees.

Texas actually has a respectable tailgate. Not on an SEC level, but respectable nonetheless. I've gone to more than a few.

I think UT beat USC in '06, then lost to Bama this year. And I prefer the Fudge PAC 10. Someone in another thread came up with that and it's perfect.

Sorry. I'm so focused on football. How the hell could I overlook baseball last year?

can't talk for all of those schools but I think Oregon, Udub, and OSU fans are kind of looking forward to it.

It will be new and exciting for them and they will get into it.

No shite. Think that we're getting all pissed off with the Gumps joining Tigerdroppings, imagine if alot of Texas fans did as well. That would be just horrible.

I don't really know.....I assumed they did. I was more referring to the poster who basically implied the whole pac ten has wine and cheese for 30 minutes before the games. Some do but not all and some places know how to party, just limited to certain things. Also, like I said...the sports scene is very different.

Pretty much solely because of population. If Louisiana and Mississippi had the population of Florida or Texas and the same demographics as they do now they would have far better talent than these 3 states, since per capita, Louisiana and MS have the highest number of NFL athletes in the country.

Vandy is a higher ranked academic school anyway, and I'm sure UF and UGA are up there if not higher than UT.

U.S. News rankings:

17 Vandy
47 Florida
57 Texas
58 Georgia
128 LSU

All of the above count as "Top Tier" schools.

However, if you're ranking law schools,

15 Texas
17 Vandy
28 Georgia
47 Florida
80 LSU

Again, all in the "Top Tier."

Which is partly why Texas belongs in the PAC-10. Culturally, they fit better there than anywhere other than the Big 12. I've lived in Austin 10 years (although grew up in SoLA and went to LSU) and had family play for Texas, so I'm well experienced in their tailgates and other traditions.

That said, on the cultural clash front, IF A&M were to follow Texas to the PAC-10, I'd buy a ticket to see what happened the first time A&M went to Stanford and had to deal with something like protesting hippies living in the trees outside the stadium.
