Drunk, where will Texas find 180 live sporting events a year to show without HS games? It is contractually obligated to show 180 live games and give its best efforts to show at least 2 football games a year with one being a conference game.

There's not $300mil of value otherwise and ESPN could scrap the whole mess like ESPN Cell Phone Service. Of course, many sips would like it scrapped anyway

They are showing UTSA football and I imagine will show some of their other sports. I have heard they are lining up spring training baseball for Stros & Rangers. Also looking at preseason NBA basketball. They are looking at all kinds of things. They'll find the events.

Texas being in the top 50 would rather want to associate with Pac (in terms of academics) than the SEC.

The Big 10 would be a better fit for them academically or even the ACC since they both have evenly spread schools from top 15 to 100.

Always thought the main purpose of a conference was for athletic competition. Are there quiz bowl competitions or spelling bees of which I am not aware?

Sounds nothing like a Longhorn Network to me. Change the damn name and keep the money.

For everyone's information, the governing body of high school sports in Texas, the University Interscholastic League (UIL) won't allow Friday night high school football to be televised by anyone. Fox sports wanted to televise games this fall, and they weren't allowed to. Instead they have a long (four hours, I think) highlight show every Friday night.

check out the LHN website and see if you think it is UT-focused:

That governing body is also owned by UT. Texas is the only state left that has a university operating its HS athletics

There are enough academicians and departments, who carry rank, at Texas who would like to be associated with top schools even if only through an athletic conference.

Though money is the all ruling factor , schools do like to pretend that academics is at least 10 % as important.

I've seen clips of their too-orange studios...but they can tweak the model/branding just a little bit and still get the desired effect without the problems caused already (like CST is to LSU). If you're gonna show MLB, NBA and UTSA, might as well not pretend you're the 24/7 UT network while backing your top client into a corner. Don't you agree?

You're over looking that ESPN might want the UT branding and is paying for that. They could have a regional sports network on their own if they wanted. Part of what they're paying for is the UT name, imo. Some people will watch that channel over Fox Sports simply because it's the Longhorn Channel. Would they tune in to Texas Sports Channel over the Fox Sports station necessarily?
