TROOF. Austin is a pretty liberal college town.
well, the school certainly is liberal, and the 'city' itself, but the surrounding areas are no where close to being liberal.. and the money in Austin is certainly not..

No, I don't think they will. I ain't no Aggie fan, but the recruiting takes on a different look when recruiting against schools not in your conference.
Look, I am not saying there will this huge increase in quality recruiting for A&M; however, it wouldn't take much to make them a really decent competitive team, in ALL sports.
Why? Some kids may just want to play in the SEC. That is one more playing chip that A&M has against Texas, Tex Tech, OU, and Ok St that they never had before.
Then, if one year they play in Houston against LSU and the next year they play in Dallas against Arkansas, and still keep their rival game with Texas...that sounds like a sharp recruiting tool that will give A&M a better edge than when they were just in the Big 12.
For me, A&M moving to the SEC is a no brainer. This is big big business opportunity for A&M that will pay dividends that will only increase over the years.
I wonder, like everyone else, if A&M got the balls to turn the trick. I say they do.
Remember, R.C. Slocum? Only the winningest coach in A&M history who is from Orange, Texas and attended McNeese STate University in Lake Charles. What is Slocum up to now?
R.C. Slocum is currently a special advisor to the president of Texas A&M University and works for the Texas A&M Foundation.
I say A&M is coming to the SEC.

Texas A&M talks the SEC, but follows UT. They've gotta break away from the power of UT. I don't think they will do it.

guess who is the Texas university that actually plays regional competition..
That will be fortunate for them because a couple of sportswriters are sayin' OU, OSU, TT, and TX have made it clear they not schedule the Aggies in any sport....for a long, long time. The butthurt card is played.
Also, will the SEC loan A&M the $10M it takes to resign from the Big XII?

they dont have to pay it if the Big 12 dissolves..
also, this whole Big 12 schools to the PAC 10 is just a disaster waiting to happen anyway.. if TAMU were to go to the SEC, they wont be in a position of looking for another conference in 5-10 years, like the other current Big 12 schools, imo..

Texas will still play games against the former Big 12 schools, but I see what you're saying.

It takes 9 votes to dissolve.

No doubt, that is a butthurt card. In the long run, though, I still think A&M would be served better by going to SEC even if the butthurt card is played.
I think the recruiting edge sharpens for A&M if they don't play those guys. Recruits got to decide, East or West. That line in the sand makes it easier for a recruit to decide. If a recruit wants to go West, well, A&M would have probably lost that recruit to Texas or OU anyway. But those recruits who want to play in the SEC...well, that's a new card for A&M to play. It'll give them a chance at some players they maybe would have never had a chance at...to play teams like LSU, Alabama, Auburn, Florida...while still staying at home in the state of Texas, home of the Dallas Cowboys.
For me, those Big 12 teams going to the Left Coast are traitors. I know it's business, but they are thinking with their butts. That's why it stinks, for them.
SEC forever!!!!!!!!!!!

Let's see... you're a high schooler who's never traveled far.
Would you prefer to see Los Angeles, Seattle, the Bay Area or Athens, Auburn, Baton Rouge, Tuscaloosa?
Tough call.

Xenophon's got it all wrong. Dodds has a long term plan that will benefit Texas. The other schools in the Big 12 South will follow suit because as Texas goes, so goes the money.
As soon as the PAC becomes a mega-conference with
all those big money TV markets tuned into it's own network, the cash will come rolling in.
The small markets in the SEC will not be able to compete with that. If A&M wants into the SEC it's going to be for something like "cultural and regional identity" but some in their camp want to follow UT and the money trail.

I will go on the record right now and say TAMU ends up in the SEC unless the Texas legislature is able to prevent it.
I say they cannot and TAMU ends up in the SEC which is good for the SEC and A&M.

fify
also, given your original question, all Texas kids would have been clamoring to play for PAC 10 schools already..

Going to the SEC has a lot of positives and as long as they don't mind paying the price within the state, go for it. A good number of politicians will look for ways to stick it to A&M; including funding.

I don't think you understand how the football divisions will play out - with 16 teams it would mean 7 of the 8 conference games would be played within the same division. And you'd only travel to a PAC west stadium once every two years
Plus you wouldn't go to see the cities, you go there and turn around to come back after you play - it's about who you'll play more than where they are anyway
(Playing WSU sucks more cause their teams are bad than because of their city)

Yes, you are right.
But going to the Left Coast still ain't gonna sit well with Mama and the home boys.
What a battle for those Texas and Okie schools!!!
That's why I am so glad LSU has been in the SEC Conference because no matter what happens to the college landscape, there will be a Southeastern Conference.
Heck, people moving south every day. We building our own TV market in the South for the next 100 years.

I wonder if we will see another game slot added to schedules to accommodate these megaconferences in the future

every market in the SEC watches every SEC game.. people in Los Angeles dont give a frick about watching anybody but USC and UCLA..
and people in Dallas and Houston will not give a frick about watching Washington St and Cal..
