If they join the SEC while Texas joins the Pac 10, wouldn't that serve them better? Instead of playing second fiddle, they're doing what's best for them.

Living in Texas I get the feeling that this is more a political thing than something that A&M feels they must follow big brother. Politicians don't want it, that is the only reason Baylor was being mentioned at all, but CU beat them to the punch!

A&M doesn't want to follow Texas at all. Unfortunately, for them they are hung by their balls to Texas by the politics.

I would love to add A&M and OU to the SEC West...and then add Florida State and Miami/Virginia Tech to the SEC East...16 team super conference...

It's more than politics. They've been joined at the hip for over 100 years. The Horns have had the upper hand recently but, over time, the balance of power does change.

Same here Chicken. And leave Texas out of it. I don't want their overinflated sense of worth and bullshite traditions in our conference.

Its all political. After the disbandment of the old SWC the legislator of Texas actually put in a law saying Texas and TA&M had to stay in the same conference. Plus i think it had to have been that the legislator didn't want to loose the rivalry between the two schools. So TA&M is going to be stuck under the shadows of Texas.

Color me confused. Why do you say you're a Texas fan? I count myself a Texas fan, too, and agree that they (we) can be a little arrogant at times.

Make no mistake, though. If LSU and UT play each other, I'm wearing purple and gold. Period.

I think A&M desperately wants to join the SEC and not Texas to get away from the little brother tag. Politics have changed and I think they COULD join different conferences, but the school that doesn't want it is Texas. They like the current arrangement (and why wouldn't they?)

Could aTm and Baylor break off from UT? Would that move hold up to the politics?

Adding Baylor, aTm, OU, and OSU would be a great move.

That's been the case recently. But not so long ago that wasn't true. Their rivalry is long, and each has enjoyed periods of superiority. They refer to each other in their fight songs.

I think they go somewhere together, or don't go at all.

Well, I think they want to preserve the Thanksgiving rivalry, but I do think the relationship is growing more toxic as Texas has sort of moved on to OU as their #1 rival.

Texas and Texas AM both are funding by a state run oil endowment fund. Its all about money.

True, but could they come to an agreement to play each other annually as OOC foes to appease the politics?
