Starting to look like it will stay at 13 teams

If that is the case. MAC conference style scheduling. Looks like the West with 7 teams will have 4 teams that will play 1 less divisional game and keep their crossdivisional rivals. The other 3 teams would have to drop their crossdiv games and only play 2 random East teams. On the East side, you have 4 teams with their same crossdiv rivals and the other 2 with no crossdiv rivals, but play 3 random West teams. A total of 18 crossdiv games.
# of div games / # of crossdiv rival games / # of other crossdiv games
West:
5/1/2: Ala, Aub, Miss, MSU
6/0/2: LSU, Ark, TAMU
East:
5/1/2: Ten, UGA, VU, UK
5/0/3: Fla, USC
Basically, you could have Ala and Aub take turns every 2 years switching back and forth between not playing one of the MS teams. This way no big rivalries are lost in the West or any crossdivisional rivalries. Plus, LSU doesnt have to play Fla every year :)

I'd hope you don't really think the SEC stays at 13 for more than a year or two, tops

Why do these so called LSU fans are so scared of Florida? I have a great idea, let's sub Florida for Georgia. Hey kids (which I hope that you are), be careful what you wish for. You kids that are complaining about LSU having Florida as a perm., makes LSU sound like a pussy school. Auburn has Ga. and that state has talent. Oh wait, you have to be a nine year old on your mom's computer, because I was in the Georgia Dome the year that Georgia beat the shite out of us.

With Florida appearing to begin a downward trend, you'd think LSU fans wouldn't be so adamant about quitting that game.

It's not about FL for me. The perm x-div opponent needs to go. This is a previous post:

I want to be part of a conference and not some clique within it. Back in the decade of the 60's we had the following:
o we played AU once (after not playing them for 26 yrs)
o didn't play GA (we were in the middle of a 24 yr period of not playing)
o we didn't play Vandy (we only played once in a 24 yr period),
o we played TN twice.
What kind of fricking conference was that? And why do you want to return to it? No, we will not have 26 year gaps, but it ain't going to be much better. GA, TN, SC, KT, MO, and Vandy should play in TIger Stadium more than FIVE TIMES IN SIXTY YEARS (8 game sched with one perm x div). It should be at minimum 12 and an ideal 15 (a home and away every 4 years).
The conference getting bigger means these x-div permanent games have to go. They probably won't, but they are paradoxically a detriment to the conf. It's no coincidence that the conf reached it max after these cliques were broken up.
You speak of matchups, but matchups are not determined by name, but play on the field. It's just a fact that the propects of teams vary over time, even for the big 6. Thowing all your eggs into one basket maximizes the risk of missing better matchups. Diversity is the key to maximizing quality.
Even though we've played FL almost continuously since the 50's, it didn't really turn into a great matchup until the ealy 2000's. The great storied AL/TN matchup has been more dud than even interesting in the last 35 years.
Do I WANT AL and AU to move to the east? No. But if they insist on playing TN, GA, FL every year instead of being in a conference, they need to be together. Besides this was the way it was in the 60's and they desparately want to return there. I don't care strongly about geographical boundaries, so I would take any of the other teams that want to be in a conf in return, so it doesn't have to be Vandy.

I think the SEC could stay at 13 if they cant get Mizzou, FSU, VT, or NCSU. WVU is always there for the taking, but does the SEC want to wait it out for one of the before-mentioned teams? Or go after GT or Clemson? Who knows? We didnt think TAMU would ever be in the SEC a few years ago either. Crazier things have happened.
