other than an additional state. I'm sure this has been discussed before, but

Aren't they mediocre at best in sports? When was the last time they had a NC contending team in football, basketball, baseball, etc? Aren't they just another LSU/Miss school when it comes to academics? These are all questions, I'm seriously asking.

I'd rather kick out one of the Mississippi schools, merging ole miss/miss st into one university, kicking out Arky, etc (if we must add TAMU) before adding a school like Missouri. I'd rather stay at 12 teams, or hell, even an odd number 13 before adding Mizzou.

"Oh he mad" & "good thing you ain't slive"

Yes, I'll certainly take you seriously after that.

St. Louis and KC TV market. Smaller professional markets, but pretty sizable markets for college.

TV drives football. Tamu gives us Texas. Then our choices were WVU or Missouri. Missouri is the better choice.

Exactly, now we'll have 3 Tigers and 2 Bulldogs

and Arky doesn't need a rival, they already play for a boot with y'all

UF - it's not about sports - KC market & TV $.
A sad state of affairs.

You don't have to take me seriously and you don't have to anchor the thread either

It's a reasonable question, and the only answer I've seen so far is what I already listed in the OP (an additional state/market).

Do they have a big football stadium? Hot women? Academics? I truly don't know anything about Mizzou except they're a long long ways away.

For the first time we are adding a weak sports team for their tv market. Mo is weak , the SEC is about football we are an athletic association not an academic affiliation!

Ark was a strong add
Sc was a strong add
A&M is a strong add
Missouri = weak they bring down the whole conference.
In the end this will hurt us we are lowing our standards

Very good academics.

KC and STL markets (which have been given too much weight IMO)

Their last NC in anything was Indoor T&F in 1965.

They've made a few Elite Eights in basketball.

Their two biggest football contributions to the national scene (other than getting blown out in consecutive CCGs) are Wiggins' kick to Davison in '97 and 5th Down in '90, which aren't exactly good things.

Yep. I think the SEC could end up the big losers of the 4 super conferences with this expansion.

Not to mention screwing up some of the most thrilling, competitive, and exciting football games in recent history. Say goodbye to LSU-Florida, LSU-Auburn. Say hello to LSU-Mizzou and LSU-A&M. A step down IMO. And no more UT-Bama.

The downs greatly outnumber the ups in all of this.

Other than another Tiger mascot, I see nothing..maybe an official rival for Arkansas but still, I don't see the benefit

Columbia is closer to Lexington, Knoxville and Nashville than they are to any towns besides Fayetteville in the west. It wouldn't surprise me one bit to see Slive put them in the East. Let's hope.
