Just wondering, make it more SEC-ish.

Not only do we have live mascots, we have dead ones too!

Before The Zone was built, Reveille was buried so that she could look through the tunnel and see the scoreboard at the south end of Kyle Field. During construction of the zone, the graves were moved across the street and moved back once construction was completed. The tunnel was removed but there is now a scoreboard on the outside of The Zone so that she can still see the score.

Reveille I - VI are buried there. VII is retired and VIII is the current mascot.

How do you bury a dog so the scoreboad can be viewed? Was the dog buried standing up? On it's side? If you buried it on it's side then only one eye can see the scoreboard. If buried on the back then the dog see's it all upside down.

Duh! Laying on its stomach, head resting on its hands looking forward.

Not creepy or cultish at all, that. Stadium improvements for dead dogs.

The City of College Station has partnered with A&M to open a new cemetery called "Aggie Field of Honor."
LINK

The first spring after this thing opened, they advertised heavily during Aggie baseball radio broadcasts. The ads mentioned the great views of Kyle Field (if a casket, six feet of dirt, and a lack of brain activity didn't impair that view). The last line of the ad was "Return to Aggieland." We would always add "in a pine box."

I've lived here for 21 years, and I don't get it.

City government getting involved with crap like this is why I moved from College Station to Bryan in 2004.

Old Aggies wanted us to remain an all-male military school. Good thing we stopped listening to those farts about stupid stuff like dog graves.

In the 30's, a couple of cadets were driving back home when they hit a dog. They brought her back to campus, got her patched up by a vet student, and took her back to the dorms with them to hide her out. When "Reveille" sounded the next morning, the mutt started barking...hence the name. I have no idea why Rev is a Collie now...used to be a mutt...really should be a German Shepherd.

The original Reveille was a mutt. I wish they would go back to that. Reveille VI had all sorts of genetic health issues. Apparently inbreeding is a problem with purebred collies. When Reveille VI was a puppy some Texas students stole her. We were the last SWC to have never had our mascot stolen. The problem was that the dog had epilepsy and was on medication. She turned up in Austin a couple of days later in good health. Reveille VI continued to have health problems and died very young.

The university finally agreed that Reveille should look like a collie but not be purebred, and I don't think that Reveille VIII is. I wish they would just go to a local animal shelter and save a stray.

Speaking of, besides University of Texas, what other school has eaten their mascot or had their mascot eaten? In 1921, UT couldn't scare up the money to take care of the cow anymore, so they had a big ol BBQ.

Haven't in a long time. A live elephant is logistically troublesome.
