Slive is way too smart to screw something up that badly
even if we can work a new deal without issue, i don't know if we'll get MORE money by any stretch

it would matter a lot more if the SEC had its own network

I agree with that. Im just saying its going to raise the per school amount though.
Posted on 8/14/11 at 3:46 pm to daviton
we assume that
i don't know if our annual, per team increase will be much more than inflation since the old deal was put in place

that doesn't mean it will work out to a better deal per team

does the SEC have its new tv deals in place? we're currently under contract, and will be for a long time
I would think if the conference added a big name like OU or FSU then ESPN would be willing to pay a lot more.
I think if we add a name that is only subject to ridicule such as A&M they will ask for some money back.

True.
2 things:
I don't think presidents would agree to expand if they didn't feel the money would at least be the same.
Other conference contracts have upped SEC price. Big12 and Pac12 deals reset the market for the premier cfb conference

i somewhat agree, but i don't think the SEC presidents agree on expansion right now

irrelevant. we signed a long-term deal.
short of taking steps to break that contract, we're stuck with it. it does not matter what other conferences do

If expansion gives you the right to break the contract and renegotiate (which I'm almost positive is the case), those deals come into play.

Slow your not understanding the point. The SEC contract has clauses for upping the money or lowering it depending on affiliations and new tv markets.
The contract years may not change but the money WILL.
The contract is like 1.1B currently or close to that. After A&M is in and depending on if 14 is a new state/market. That contract monetary value will go up and every schools year pay will be more.

does ESPN and CBS not work in Texas?
Posted on 8/14/11 at 4:13 pm to SlowFlowPro
there is proof it came from the horses own mouth, mike slive.
yes espn works in texas. Just because a channel works in a certain area does not mean its being watched. The shopping channel works well here i hear, but I dont watch it.
You think an Aggie fan is watching Arkansas/Ole miss on ESPN or A&M/Texas Tech on Fox Sports.

"Obviously when we did our deal we set the pace, and in our contract we have a concept called look-ins," Slive said. "At periodic points during the life of the contract, we can sit down with ESPN and take a look-in and look at the status of television, technology, all aspects of television, and at that point make adjustments that the parties agree are appropriate to make sure that everything that we intended to achieve with the contracts would in fact be available to us."
The SEC's groundbreaking 15-year, $2.25 billion TV deal with ESPN -- not to mention a $55 million-a-year pact with CBS -- signed in 2008 has been overtaken. The Pac-12's new 12-year deal with Fox and ESPN is worth about $3 billion, which will prompt a renegotiation for the SEC.

CBSSports.com: Since the TV marketplace has changed in the past three years, does the SEC have the option of going back to the negotiating table?
Slive: First of all, our contracts are written in such a way that the rights fees have escalators in them. So we feel good about that. Secondly, they have "look-ins," so that every so often we revisit the contract and "look in" at our current deal to make sure that we are remaining on top of our game. We look forward to these "look ins." but we also feel very good about the final 12 years of our deal.

exactly why the "market" argument is retarded
perfect example: more people would watch FSU over Missouri, but Missouri adds a new market
quote:

but you still pay for it, which is why the market argument works for cable networks and not ESPN/CBS-type deals

all your quotes say nothing about conference expansion
