b/c its a pro sports town, do you remember when Maryland won it all in basketball or went to the Orange bowl to get spanked by the sex cannon

You wouldn't even know VT existed

it has nothing to do about how i dislike them, no college team has a grip on the DC area esp one 4 hours away that no one cared about before MV7

But Tech has more of a presence than any other college...

And NOVA runs the DC Market. Two of the richest counties in America, maybe the richest if I remember correctly.

Loudon and Fairfax , but i think Montgomery county maryland is richer then both

If Maryland is good tech becomes an after thought just for the mere fact the campus is 15 miles from dc

People in DC watch SEC football regardless and if they get a tv deal like the B1G you don't need VT in the area to have that offered. When i still lived in the area the B1G network came part of my sports package

You might be right about Maryland, but I can only speak for NOVA. When I'm driving down the road, I see way more VT bumber stickers than UVA or Maryland.

Whatever though, I think we hijacked this thread. Sorry.

Straightcashhomey definitely has bitter feelings towards tech. Possibly even more than I do which is saying a lot.

I agree. Some things just make too much sense to actually happen.

The rivalry was intense bro, they hate us and we hate them even though we haven't played since 2005.

Both fan bases still talk shite on each other

when it comes to their football team ill talk lots of shite on them but in regards to expansion ive been pretty fair in my assessment of them and any myths about what they do and don't offer

I've been in Arlington for the past few years as well. If I had to rank the college presences of DC/NOVA, it would be:

1) VT
2) WVU
3) UMD
4) UVA
5) PSU

But out of the 5 teams, WVU has the least amount of excitement because we play in a bullshite conference. If we were in the SEC and in the national spotlight much more, we could easily pass VT. The thing about the DC area is that most people here are the BIGGEST bandwagon fans in the country. All they care about is whatever the media force feeds them. If there was a local team in the SEC going up against an LSU, Bama, UF each week, I would bet the house the DC fans would get behind that.

Try very desirable and absolutely unrealistic. I doubt there is a single decision maker in the SEC that wouldn't love to add UNC as a 14th, but I am pretty sure UNC would rather dissolve as an institution than be in a conference that they (not me) see as utterly beneath them.

I grew up in the area the notion of calling redskins fans bandwagon is laughable

Definitely true. DC is not a college sports town in general, except maybe Georgetown basketball.

To the extent that there is a college fan base here, it's probably divided about like this:

1t. Maryland
1t. Va. Tech
3t. West Virginia
3t. UVA
5. Penn State
6. ACC in general
7. Navy
8. Everybody else in small numbers due to transplants who bring their loyalties with them

I will say this, though. I've lived in DC since 2004, and the only times I've seen a local sports writeup (not the AP wire story blurb that goes out to all the papers in the country) about an upcoming LSU game were when we played Va. Tech, West Virginia or in the NC game.

In college football maybe, but that's just because most people here don't care much about college football, so they only pay attention when one of the local teams is doing well. Maryland, Virginia Tech, West Virginia, Virginia and Navy are the only "local" teams in college football.

When it comes to the Redskins, though, they are certainly not bandwagon fans. The Nats have pretty loyal fans, too, considering what a short time they've been here and how bad they always are. I see a lot of Caps jerseys around, and Chinatown is always a sea of red when they play, but I don't follow hockey much and have never been to one of their games, so I can't really judge how loyal their fans are. The Wizards don't seem to generate that much attention.

I don't know what the CBS and ESPN ratings are around here for SEC games, but I do know that Comcast doesn't have the SEC Network available here. I don't know if the SEC Network has deals with cable providers, though. They might just deal exclusively with local TV stations.

Yes, I have the sports package (whatever the one is that has all of them) with Comcast, and I do get BTN. Those Minnesota-North Dakota State clashes are absolutely riveting, let me tell you.

I think Missouri is ruled out, Apparently too much love for the Big 12 and like it or not I believe it will be West Virginia. I think Slive is just putting up a smoke screen saying he is happy with 13 teams. It will be WVU when all the smoke and dust settles.

exactly why the SEC doesn't need a team to own the DC market, get the TV network thrown in a sports package and take a cut like the BTN regardless if people watch they will still get a cut
