It will be interesting to see how the PR turns out. So far, ESPN has looked to protect their investment, the Texas newspapers have mostly slanted toward the whorns, but a lot of national outlets that compete with ESPN (especially SI) have been overwhelmingly in support of us.

just keep towing that UT company line, before long it'll be UT, Baylor and the rest of Conference USA with a dash of Sunbelt. Then you'll finally get what you want, a chance to dominate a bunch of 2nd tier teams without ever really having to prove any ability on the field.

I concur!

Apparently, this is not without precedent:

Interesting history.

The only legitimate reason I can see for keeping the series is to have a guaranteed big draw game that gets us on nat'l TV and pumps travel dollars into the local economy. But that problem is solved if we've got LSU or Bama coming. And Texas can play ND or SoCal or whoever.

I just want to get out of a situation where legislators play games with funding threats based on who they favor in the A&M/TU rivalry and we have to go through this same drama every couple years, if not every year.

Let each school pursue separate identities and paths in their own best interests.

And Dan Beebe can keep sucking DeLoss Dodds dry without us worrying about what's going on in there.

Texas is teh one who should be more interested in continuing to play the A&M series - they will probably continue to largely dominate the heads up matchup and that will make them look like the superior school even if A&M continues to improve moderately

Not a bad post except for this. A&M has won the last 3 out of 5, and over my lifetime (30 years) we've split the series, so the longhorns aren't dominating any longer. They just scream that they do loudly, and often, so people believe it.

I understand that is your perspective - but it is not widely shared outside of A&M

esp because since 2000 Texas has won 8 of the 11 games against A&M (and many of them in lopsided fashion)

Is UT already trying to get out of playing A&M once they get some SEC recruits playing for A&M? Unreal...

I couldn't care less about 100 years of anything, I've been a Texas fan for 20 or so years and a Texas Alumni for 5. History doesn't mean dick to me, I care about the future and if we can bury aggy by not playing them again and forcing them to play all of their away games outside of the state of Texas, I'm all for it. I don't think we should be giving them a national marquee game in the state of Texas if they bail.

As said on another board, if you get a divorce you don't invite your ex-wife over for Thanksgiving dinner anymore. Why should we want anything to do with the petty, jealous bitches?
