Does anyone see them becoming anything more than an Moo State/Kentucky in the SEC? Some success every now and then (as in ranked 11-25) but largely irrelevant most of the time? They've put together a nice stretch of football under Pinkel the last few years but I can't see them sustaining that in the SEC.

I see them as very competitive... more so than either of the Mississippi schools. Acceptance into the SEC will light a fire of enthusiasm there and they'll have a relatively populous state all to themselves to recruit.

I think an addition to the SEC is what Mizzou needs to become a football school.

If they get better recruits they'll do good, they usually have a good offense, just the defense needs work. And believe me there's a lot of people from down south that love it up here in Missouri and Kansas, they'll pull some recruits by playing in the SEC. Mizzou is not a bad place to go to school at. Columbia is a nice town, a lot of history. You have STL down I-70 on the East side of Missouri and KCMO on I-70 on the West side of Missouri. College kids would never get bored.

Especially with the Chiefs being down and STL not knowing if they'll go to L.A. Missouri residents are HUNGRY for good football. Mizzou is in the best position right now to take over football in the state.

I think they will be about like SC. Solid fans, good at times, rarely a danger to win the SEC but they will possibly make it to the SECCG in an off year for other schools.

In other words, below the Big Six (and probably Arkansas), but above Vandy, KY and the Miss schools.

My thing is, are they the kind of fanbase that will be beside-themselves excited to be accepted into the SEC like A&M is? They were willing to do whatever it took to play with the nation's elite, and have been chanting "S-E-C, S-E-C" at almost every opportunity. Ignoring the culture clash, I've just got this feeling that Mizzou isn't going to be "All In", if you will, that they're still gonna be holding out hope for the B1G, or at least wishing they were in it knowing that there's no chance. Do they really see themselves competing in the SEC 5, 10, 50 years down the road?

I feel the same way, Middle of the pack. They had problems beating the Big 12 South in title games. I see that continuing in the SEC if they ever made a Championship game.

I don't think the BIG will go after them if Mizzou joins the SEC. They have a chance to pull them right now, if Mizzou goes to the SEC I'm sure they'd stay there.

I think MO will be the test case wrt how much conference affiliation matters in recruiting. They will be the ideal school for mid-western recruits who want to play in the SEC, but distance, culture, etc makes them reluctant to pull the trigger.

They've been better than A&M for most of the last decade. But no, I don't see either one of them becoming a perennial winner in the SEC.

add another state to the top of The Boot and rename it the frick Me Boot. lowest ranked team of Ark/LSU/ Mizzou has to keep it.

I can see them being around a .500 SEC team. They can tap into Texas for some talent from time to time and pull in some kids from the St. Louis area.

Had Mizzou or WVU either one won their last game in the 2007 season then one of them instead of LSU would have gone to the BSCNCG and there is no doubt in my mind that either of them would have defeated tOSU.

They had a good team with Laryngitis and all.

WVU would have taken them out, who was at the helm of Mizzou at the time..Booger?

I agree. There are a lot of talented athletes in KC and St. Louis that frequently go out of state now. That could really change with the SEC available locally.

More than enough reasons for them to join the SEC that will be good for their football program.

Eventually, they'll gel. They won't win shite, but they'll have some decent showings.

Think Semi Yankee Hogs.
