Just found this news:

The University of Missouri Board of Curators News Conference Summary

Posted: Oct 21, 2011 1:17 PM by Tyler Hayes
Updated: Oct 21, 2011 1:25 PM

"The Missouri Board of Curators met today and discussed the progress on the presidential search but no comments regarding conference realignment. The curators announced they are exploring the possibility of some Kansas City based tournaments for basketball and football to maintain the MO/KS rivalries but when asked whether that means Missouri is leaving the Big 12, Curators said they've tasked Chancellor Brady Deaton to "explore options". KOMU8's Chris Gervino will join us live on our newscasts beginning at 4pm to provide context to the Curators' announcement regarding these Kansas City based tournaments."

The deal about a basketball tournament and football game in KC is all about placating the folks in KC over losing the Big XII tournament when Missouri leaves. They are gone.

This is playing out exactly as the A&M move went.

Step 1. Task head to "explore options"

Step 2. Announce intent to leave conference assuming they have an invitation

Step 3. Apply for membership to SEC

Step 4. Have Baylor call and threaten to sue

Step 5. Oklahoma tries to leave the conference and is rebutted by the PAC 12. t.u. is told to frick off.

Step 6. Unconditional acceptance

Step 7. School from Big East is poached. Local newspapers consider it an "upgrade"

Step 8. Primary rival whines like a little bitch and announces that they'll never play again.

I think you're 100% correct.
Common sense says that Mizzou won't be able to salvage any ties to the Big X once they announce they're gone. They may as well accept that fact.

I don't really get all of this hostility. It wasn't there last year for NU and CU. After the SWC broke up we continued to play Rice, TCU, SMU, and Houston (not so much in football but in basketball and baseball).

yes, they will be blackballed by Big 12 teams.

Not sure how important the rivalry is with Kansas, but from a football perspective, Kansas is a nobody.

Finding an opponent for Mizzou to play in KC will be easy.

It's not so much about football or even sports. The people from Missouri and Kansas just flat out hate each other. It goes back to the Civil War. Kansas was very strongly anti-slavery and Missouri had to be occupied by union troops to prevent their secession.

That pretty much nails it, but the fighting and killing began years before Fort Sumter and lasted years after Appomattox.

Abolitionists moved into Kansas and Lawrence was named for Lawrence, Massachusetts. There were also some pro-southern elements in Kansas for example Atchison that was named for U.S. Senator David Rice Atchison. When he wasn't in Washington or on a drunk Atchison could usually be found leading bands of Missouri guerillas on raids into Kansas.

Kansans cannot decide if they are yankees or westerners, but they know damn well that they aren't Southerners.

Really?

"He gave no timeline for a decision but indicated that a move, if it happens, would not take much longer."

Chancellor Brady Deaton

Like I said, Mizzou hasn't made a decision.

My statement wasn't based on whether Mizzou was following the same procedure as A&M; I simply said they hadn't decided yet...and they haven't.

You're right about Mizzou using the A&M blueprint, but some reason I had the feeling the Aggies were moving full steam ahead and were committed to making the change. I just don't have that same level of confidence that Mizzou is as committed to the jump as the Aggies. Maybe they are; I just don't feel it.

NU and CU don't have the history that A&M does. Breaking up a 100 year marriage is gonna be more painful than a 16 year courtship. Hell, they may even play Missouri after this.

Actually, Deloss Dodds translated into ancient Hebrew is:

I agree. The Aggies were committed to coming to the SEC. All the back room stuff was about how to get it done, because no matter how it was done, Aggies were now committed to the SEC.

Missouri sits at the table like it is a poker game, afraid to give out their intentions. That's fine, but don't anyone confuse Missouri's commitment as the same as the Aggies. It ain't. In the future, it might be, but it ain't now.

Of course, based on the shite storm flying around when the Aggies made their intentions known before any formal announcement, maybe this is exactly the road SEC and Missouri have decided to take...slow, cautious, and with all cards down so nothing is left to chance, which means neither side wants anything to blow up in their faces.

Go figure. Me, I'd bet Missouri is coming to the SEC.

well, A&M went through a trial walk-through last year...they had over a year to let support fester for the change. The SEC and A&M had a lot more time invested in each other by the team A&M made the switch.

This would be like Mizzou sticking in the Big 12 for next season and then jumping ship for the SEC in 2013.

Mizzou has had less time than A&M to arrive at a decision...but I think the decision has been made...they are just working out the remaining details.
