Joe Schad is reporting #Houston #SMU & #UCF will head to Big East. Is this a good thing for these teams? Is it good for college sports?

UCF would be a good pick, it gives USF a nearby rival. The War on I-4 can resume.

Houston and SMU don't make much sense -- neither team has that good a recent track record -- but at least with two teams in the same general area it could work.

UH has won consistently in recent years and is on the cusp of building a new stadium. They've always had potential given the location -- their past achievements are good indicators.

Yeah I saw them taking today about Houston's QB Case Keenum and he's a Heisman candidate. They said he's a long shot but he is in contention.

The Big East basketball schools should pick up Xavier, Dayton, Richmond, Temple, St Joes, and Butler and break away from the football schools

Possibly, not sure how many schools they're going to add with the merger and all. hopefully 3 football schools and some basketball only schools. Even tho C-USA didn't lose much on the Bball side.

I think Temple would be good, someone said UT San Antonio was on the short list, then I threw up a little in my mouth.

I'd give tech a 75% shot at getting in now

It's about replacing markets lost for CUSA. Sadly for Tech, schools like North Texas, Middle Tennessee and even UT-San Antonio may add more value as expansion candidates. Also, Georgia State is another one to watch.

The Big East keeps trading top schools for mid to lower tier schools. The WAC might be stronger now.

People around here (NY area) are all embarassed by this and begging Rutgers to get out and go somewhere. Trouble is, nobody wants them. The Big East will become a mid major in football. A writer for the Newark paper said its time to take yor parting gifts and wave goodbye to the Big East. Today maybe Rutgers last chance to beat West Virginia.

No way the Big East should keep AQ status when the BCS renews. Not worthy

Unfortunately for Tech, this. UNT is not on par with Tech but to replace a big market team (SMU), you have to go with another big market school - UNT. It's not what UNT does bring - it's the potential of what they could bring. Tech is better than UNT no doubt but it's the outside factors.

Tech should pull a tcu "just in case" and join the sun belt.

Then pray that CUSA wants to expand to the bible belt.

True. But who do they choose to replace UCF and Houston? I would think FIU (Florida International University) replaces UCF and either Tech or UT-San Antonio replaces Houston. Do they really go with a Div II team because of market?

Absolutely. The good thing is that if 3 CUSA teams leave with 2 being from the west, I could see them inviting Tech and UNT along with FIU. Tech is better than both those schools but it about the markets. I hope Reneau and Van de Velde are working the phones.
