I don't know that ULL has any "friends" though. Tech was in the WAC with Rice, Tulsa, and UTEP. If it came down to Tech or ULL, who would Tulane vote for?

Also, if the merger with the MWC moves forward, Tech would probably also have the support of Fresno, Nevada, and Hawaii.

ULL just seems to be a longshot because they don't have as much history with these programs.

Doesn't matter what Tulane thinks because in their mind they are headed to the Big 12.

UNT not on par with Tech? UNT is by far a better option.

The smart schools in C-USA tend to stick together, Tulane,Rice,Tulsa. I wouldn't mind seeing Tech in C-USA I do want some basketball school tho.

I wouldn't necessarily *mind* Tech in C-USA, but they will be the absolute last school considered for expansion because Tech desperately wants to join them and everyone knows it.

Looks like Tech is at the top of the list to me(with Temple).

LINK

But schools mentioned as possible targets if C-USA were to expand included Temple, Louisiana Tech and TCU, or perhaps some schools from larger conferences that might begin to fall apart during realignment, according to some people connected to C-USA.

LINK

In the West: Boise State, Hawaii, UNLV, Nevada, Fresno State, San Diego State, Utah State and San Jose State.

In the Mountain: Air Force, Colorado State, Wyoming, New Mexico, UTEP, SMU, Tulsa and Houston.

In the Central: Marshall, Memphis, Southern Mississippi, Tulane, Alabama-Birmingham, Rice, Temple and Louisiana Tech.

In the Big East (expanded to account for its recent defectors): Louisville, Connecticut, Rutgers, Cincinnati, South Florida, Central Florida, Navy and East Carolina.

I'm talking in terms of C-USA by itself, NOT in terms of this proposed 28+ team C-USA / MWC / Big East clusterfrick.

IF C-USA loses Houston, SMU, and UCF to the Big East, this 28+ team pipe dream doesn't happen, and the conference wants to stay at 12 teams for the championship game, the big contenders to be picked up would have to be Florida Atlantic, Florida International, and North Texas purely for markets.

The first link was an article from last year when CUSA was talking about expanding to 16 teams (not a merger or alliance, just expanding CUSA). Tech was mentioned as 1 of the 4 possible "additions."

The second article was the alliance/merger where Tech and Temple would be added to the CUSA side.

Now both of these articles addressed "additions" to CUSA, not "replacements" for departing CUSA teams. I think CUSA would want to replace UCF with another Florida school (FIU or FAU) and they would want to replace the Dallas market with UNT. There really isn't a replacement for the Houston market, unless they want to take a chance on UT-San Antonio, which is a real possibility. But if they don't want to risk that, it looks like Tech and Temple are the targets for "addition" to the league.
