There is no way Slive can end the Bama/UT game. If he does this he just spit on the history of the SEC.

Sad day for college football when the third Saturday in October is over..... Makes no sense.
well, OU/Nebraska ended as an every year game in the Big 12 and will probably never be back.
A&M/austin is probably done too and its one of the longest running games in the country.
not saying I like it but thats just how progress is sometimes.

This opens great potential for embarrassment, in my opinion. Missouri will jump from the SEC in an instant, if the Big 10 even slightly hints that they're interested.

Probably won't since the SEC is a better football conference, they're probably laughing at the BIG.

why do people keep saying this? you dont just jump from conference to conference for the hell of it. if mizzou accepted an offer from the sec and joined they wouldnt be jumping anywhere.

If we were to jump to the SEC, I guarantee you we're there to stay. Our Board of Curators would never let that happen once we join.

I dont have a link but I did read it on this board where LSU chancellor Mike Martin said the permanent interdivision rivals were over. So unless AU, UT, UGA and Bama are all in the same division, something has to give.
Theoretically though, it could work like this
West
Ark
LSU
Mizzou
Ole Miss
MSU
A&M
Vandy
East
Fla
UGA
Bama
Aub
UT
UK
SC
Not saying I like it, nor given the current state of things would you have competitive balance, but if Martin's comments are true, this or some form thereof, is the only way the traditional rivalries could be preserved without permanent out of division opponents.

If it is Missouri (and this still falls under speculation as far as I'm concerned), Auburn and 'Bama both could move East and Vandy goes to the West if they want to keep both the UT/Bama and Iron Bowl in tact. Of course, that'd ruin competitive balance. Something has to give in expansio unfortunately.

There used to be 2 permanent cross division opponents (Florida and Kentucky for LSU). Even though it would require 8 league games a year, this is doable.

hell obi i have linked that several times. people will just claim martin doesnt know what he is talking about.
fact of the matter is, folks will believe what they want to, no matter what facts stare them in the face.
its the reason people continue to bang the VT/FSU/Clemson drum.

Why not just add Mizzou to the east? At least until a 15th or 16th team is added at some point? They border Tennessee and Kentucky.

I highly doubt this. Missouri has wanted to be a member of the Big 10 for decades. Look, I'll agree that many universities are solely motivated by television money and football.
However, many university administrators are completely preoccupied by academic prestige. The pressure to perform well in international university rankings tables has become extremely intense in recent years, and an affiliation with the Big 10 / Pac 12 helps an institution's international profile tremendously. At the end of the day, these decisions depend on the individual perspectives, professional ambitions, and educational backgrounds of administrators.

Yea Vandy West would work geographically but it would make the West be LSU and 6 other teams who have not sniffed a national title in decades, while the East would have Bama, Auburn, Florida, Tennessee, Georgia, and an on the rise South Carolina. The competitive imbalance would rival that of the former Big 12 North/South.

I think you got this totally right...

I don't disagree, but if they're saying no permanent opponent from the opposite division, what else can be done? I mean, you can swap out a few of the teams I have listed there, but it doesnt change much...say you swapped out UF for Vandy...then you have griping about losing the Cocktail Party. Hell, even in the format I listed Vandy won't like that they don't play UT anymore. Bottom line if Martin's statements are true (and this was an audio link that was provided, so it's not hearsay) there is no other way it can be done. And you can bet your bottom dollar that scheduling was a HUGE factor in discussion before they decided to invite A&M.

If Auburn moved to the SEC East, that could cause the Iron Bowl date to be changed. Moving Alabama-Auburn from the final week of the regular season would eliminate the possibility of a rematch the following week in the SEC Championship Game.
this pisses me off the most. that game is supposed to be the final week of the regular season. I was on board with all this until now

Fodder, and yes a watering down
Doesn't matter who the SEC adds, Someone is going to finish at the bottom. I think Mizzou beats OC teams on par with UK, Miss St., Vandy, Ole Miss or better.
Frankly I tried of Ole Miss loosing to Memphis and others of this quality year after year and play bowl games against LSU and Bama.

One step closer to this:
I like the rivalries:
LSU-A&M
Arky-Mizzou
MSU-Ole Miss
Bama-Auburn
Florida-UGA
TN-VT
SC-NCSU
KY-Vandy
The "Auburn to the East" is just noise to keep the ACC off our tail.
