Why? Screw Bama and Tenn. I hope they lose their rivalry. I won't lose any sleep over it. Neither will anyone else other than those two fanbases. It'd be fun to make fun of them this year about how we screwed them over when they visit the Plains in November.

Or on the 3rd saturday in october when they're playing ole miss...oh wait.

I'm not buying that either are against it. We heard over and over how UF was voting no to block expansion because they didn't want FSU BLAH BLAH BLAH... then they say they weren't even looking at FSU since we want new TV markets. There has been more incorrect journalism in the topic of expansion than camgate.

I'm just not buying it

Or at the end of the year when Alabama and Auburn play in the Iron Bowl, named for the steel making history of Auburn.

In 20 years, maybe they could do a movie about it. Remember The Rivalry!

It is times like these that I realize how fricking old I am. AU/UF were big rivals back before the 1990's but the dynamic has changed and I don't think the game would ever have the same meaning it had back then. Before FSU became relevant UF's rivalry games were UGA and then Auburn. If we started playing again we would be behind FSU, UGA and most likely UT as far as beng rivals is concerned. They would at best be our 3rd most important game.

In 20 years, people will be saying the same thing about the UT/UA game. This too shall pass gumps, this too shall pass.

Absolutely.

no rivalry is greater than the conference

I agree....but there are different opinions on what makes the conference greater.

And apparently at least 4 schools feel differently than the other 8 schools.

so what is it when UGA and LSU play? Sun Belt football?

And way to take a statement WAAAAY out of context. To put it in a little better perspective for you...Is a Missou-South Carolina game more important to the SEC than Miss State-Ole Miss? A TexAgs-Vandy game more important than Tenn-Florida? No, and certain games should be preserved for the betterment of the conference IMHO.

I disagree. I think the success Aub has had against Florida and (IMO)would continue to have would cause the Florida fanbase to forget UT and focus more on Auburn. God knows the UT/UF game is boring as Hell, almost as much as UA-UT

Agreed about the change of time frame sucking, but the iron bowl in no way identifies a specific time frame and i'd be willing to play that game in birmingham every once in a while.

But it identifies a venue where it hasn't been played in a decade.

QUICK REMINDER:

If ONLY UT & Bama voted against Mizzou then it wouldn't matter. The conference requires 9 votes for a team. Right now they only have 8. That means FOUR teams currently are saying "No thanks"

Dunno about all that. I remember under Dye in the 80's AU/UF was just as big, important, and intense as AU/UGA. Also, UF picked AU as their cross division rival back in 1992, so apparently UF thought we were their biggest SEC rival.

I will say this, if AU picked UF back up and lost LSU, the AU/UF rivalry for AU would exceed the current AU/LSU rivalry within 5 years. For me, it would happen quickly and easily since I have so many memories of AU/UF and have been to at least 15 AU/UF games.

Also, I do not think AU (as a whole) has a strong opinion on the matter at all. It is somewhat of a PREFERENCE for us to go east, but it is not a big deal either way. We pick UF back up and lose LSU. We also get UT back, but that was never a strong rivalry that meant a lot.

What this is about is bama (and ut) shutting the frick up and doing what is best for the conference as a whole (and ultimately themselves though most gumps aren't bright enough to see it yet).

fine, then again, no one better frick with LSU vs MSU, since it has a longer history than UT Bama

Oh yeah. I'm telling you, UF hated AU back in the 80's. It was NOT a friendly rivalry at all. When we beat them in '87 on Halloween on a last second TD, they about lost their mind. Before that in 1983 and 1984, there were accustation of all kinds of crap including each team cheating, refs being paid off, etc. It was ugly. Then ask Emmitt Smith what the worst loss of his UF career was and the game he wanted to win the most. That is right, AU again.

The AU/UF rivalry was serious before 1992. Being in different divisions did help cool it off and it being 20 years ago a lot of people do not realize it.

Would be funny if one of them was LSU.

Is there a link to the Bham News story?

Do we know for sure it is 8-4 right now? A majority vote would be 7 or more, correct?

Also, does aTm get a voice in this or do they have to wait until July 1st to be included in a vote?
