I think this is precisely why LSU has a shot. Riley knows he can not compete at OU in the SEC. The losses will pile up and he may never have another opportunity to go to a place with built in advantages like LSU once that starts happening. The narrative will become he racked up wins against inferior talent in a weak conference. That will become his legacy.

once ou is in the sec, or maybe even now, recruiting will pick up on the defensive side of the ball for ou. he won't need to be at LSU.

I disagree. Right now he’s not directly competing with LSU, Alabama, and the rest of the SEC for many recruits. Hell, he’s not even really competing with anyone in the current conference he’s in and still can’t field a competent defense.

Why would an elite defensive player choose OU over LSU or Alabama with the history and reputation of putting players in the league from that side of the ball both schools have?

The truth is most won’t.

you do have a point. he will have to go into la, ms, al, ga and fl to get a top flight defense.

I agree.

I think OU is at best a fourth place team in the SEC.

They won’t be better than bama, LSU, or Georgia.

They will be competing with Florida, Auburn, A&M for fourth best team with Arkansas and Ole Miss coming on strong.
