The play-off committee has finally figured out that OU is a paper Tiger and embarrasses itself when it makes the play-offs. They are undefeated but rightfully sitting way out of the Top 4 because they’ll never be very good. Riley’s talents are being wasted at what is essentially the Power 5 version of Cincinnati.

Because dude cannot handle the heat of the SEC… he gets tossed around like a blow doll at a frat house when playing SEC talent.

I mean he’s gonna come to the SEC either way.

Have you seen OU’s facilities? And more importantly have you seen Norman to BR? We have great facilities but there’s is just as good but Norman is a far better place to call home so I see why he wouldn’t come. OU is still going to be good in the SEC it’s just Texas that is fricked.

Outside of Jimbo to ATM - which still took a ton of money, personal relationship with the AD, and personal problems with his wife - tell me how many established coaches have left successful football programs over the past two decades to go to a similar place?

I think it’s still a big question mark on wether OU will be as good in the SEC or not. If they don’t get better on defense then they won’t fair very well. Yea they will win some but LSU knows as good as anyone that sec teams we are suppose to beat always plays us tough. Arkansas Ole miss miss St A&M specifically

Yeah, it almost never happens, and won’t with Riley unless something bad is going on behind the scenes that we don’t know about. There’s just way more reasons to stay. And with top tier coaches making so much money now anyway, a couple extra million a year to someone who’s already making close to 10 and has a net worth probably in the teens at 38 years old, it’s just probably not worth the gamble.

I have no doubt that Riley thinks he can win a NC—probably multiple ones—at OU. And what would be more gratifying, being the 4th straight coach at LSU to win one or bringing another one back to Norman and the storied OU program for the 1st time in 20+ years? How bout job security? Not only did LSU shitcan a guy like 18 months after coaching the greatest college football team of all time, but a championship at OU would probably keep him safe there for the next 30 years. And that matters, not only because he’s got a family, but so do the guys on his staff that he’d be asking to uproot and leave for.

I would love Riley—I just don’t think it makes any sense for him to leave unless there’s something going on we don’t know about. Just like if he was at LSU, I wouldn’t think it would make any sense for him to leave here either.

He is not leaving OU. That's his handiwork.

It's a matter of personal pride. Saban says his biggest regret was leaving LSU, because he built that. Now he is just one of several that have won with LSU. It's more about pride, legacy than money. And Riley wants a legacy.

Just curious where you read that. I don't doubt it but have never seen it in print. And if he did say it you cannot deny the truth of it.

Also, It is fun to think about what could have been had he stayed. I don't think it was about the money as much as him wanting to go to the NFL.

"As it turns out, what I learned from that experience in hindsight was, it was a huge mistake to leave college football," Saban said. "And I know a lot of LSU fans think I left for whatever reasons, but I left because I wanted to be a pro coach, or thought I wanted to be a pro coach. We loved LSU. We worked hard to build the program. If there was one thing professionally that I would do over again, it would've been not to leave LSU."

this is the important point. football infrastructure aside, lincoln has 2 young children and norman is far superior to br when it comes to raising a family

And Mulkey had no reason to leave Baylor. She had built a dominate program, made TX her home, and Baylor would match or at least get close to anything Woody offered her. In addition she had the apple of her eye, her grands there with her, no way she leaves for LSU…

Mel Tucker isn't excited nor is Napier. Would be a failure to me. What do you think it possibly is?
