Woodward’s legacy will completely be defined by this hire.

His hires so far are Mulkey and Johnson. Those are great, but nothing compared to this hire.

There’s no way Woodward concedes to this moron prez when his legacy is on the line. Woodward would throw Tate under the bus publicly if Tate interfered.

Tate has a history of being heavily involved in athletics in the past.

I don’t care if he is. So is Saban. By that logic, Tate and Woody both should be calling for Saban to be the coach. I’ll support that 100%

So what specific powers does Tate have over him for this hire? No one has answered that yet. If he has any, this hire will be a minority, period. And that's fine if it's a home run hire.

I don’t disagree with you, but not at this level. I think it’s cute he’ll give input, but somebody’s got to write the checks. It’s not gonna be Woody or Tate so there’s that.

My hope like everyone else is we hire a stud who coaches here 10 years. That way we never have to mention William Tate/ football coach hire again.

I imagine it went something like this.

Woody: “I want to fire O and give him $17 mil to walk away.”

Tate: “you have my support, but you have to hire a minority head coach.”

Woody: “Aight.”

Serious question, where and what examples of him doing this?

Tate will be fired as prez if his minority coach hire is a dud. He’d better be certain his minority hire can win championships. Is he willing to face that?

You're not the first person to suggest that. Woodward is savvy, and he knows that this hire will potentially define his tenure as athletic director. If Tate did say that he hopes to make his nark on the university by hiring it's first black football coach, then Woodward knows that his goal and Tate's may not be aligned. If he's being pushed in a direction that he feels is counterproductive, then it's in his best interest to make sure the boosters and big donors know what's going on.
