Why the secret "sources"

it's an anonymous internet message board.
Why don't people name thier sources. Reporters do it because their names are out there. Why here? Always seemed wierd, unless these "unnamed sources" are really just the poster's imagination.

Even better is the people who won't even say how their "source" is even in position to know these things.
If I heard something from somebody, I'd AT LEAST say, "My source is on the board of admin at LSU"
they won't say that because, more than likely we'd get a bunch of embarassing "my source works at Joe's Crab Shack"

I have a source. He probably doesn't read this board, but I KNOW guys that work for him do. Those guys know me and know my handle. If post his name, not only is he not a source anymore, he may not be happy with me for a long time.

Then your source needs to learn to keep him damn mouth shut if he doesn't want things repeated.

if this is true, then as soon as you say "i have a source" and post a rumor they should know or at the very least be suspicious so what difference does it really make

Who says he doesn't want it repeated? He just wants no link to it. If he did not want it repeated, at all, he would not tell me.
