It's been no secret for probably at least a month that RR would be canned at Mich; further, that Les would be an obvious candidate. I am speculating that Alleva has been quietly working behind the scenes, assessing interest in the LSU job from various coaches, in the event Les left. I would assume he's ALREADY -- weeks ago -- assured himself that blockbuster candidates, i.e., Gruden, Spurrier, Patterson, for ex., aren't interested. You don't wait until Les says, "I'm going to Mich.," and then call up Gruden's agent and assess his interest. This makes you look stupid and unprepared. This has likely already been done. So, if in fact LSU hires Pelini, it's not like it's a knee-jerk reaction, "OMG, we have to hire someone, NSD is less than a month away." The search has ALREADY been going on in the event Les did leave. And I have no problem w/ accepting Alleva's conclusion (again, if this all happens as it appears it will) that Pelini is the best coach available.

I hope Bo Pelini never comes anywhere near Baton Rouge again. He's a crazy person and would be a horrible fit as head coach of the LSU football team.

Pelini reminds me of Saban on the sidelines but the difference is that when Pelini was here I remember hearing alot of players really liked him.

I think Pelini would do a fine job here.

I have heard Pelini was well liked also.

I would just rather have a pro style offensive coach and retain Chavis.

But he's not Jeff, though by your threads the last 24 hrs, you obviously think so.

Pelini, had Mack's 5 win Texas undress him in Lincoln, and Sark's pitiful UDub humiliated the Huskers in their Holiday revenge tilt.

Bo has done a really good job at Neb, but not a great one. Hiring him would be a concession, he isn't a magnetic recruiting personality, is sorta shy with media, can be gruff, has plenty to learn in terms of elite HC'ing.

He would be a bargain hire, and one LSU's Ath Dept could shove plenty of retained staff onto..and not anywhere near an ideal hire.

Penlini would be terrible. Nebraska most boring team to watch I think. No head coach

Did you watch Pelini's sideline hissy fits this year? He hurt his team badly in the Big XII championship game because he wasn't in control.

Pelini is not a good closer in recruiting either...Thumbs down on him.

If all this unfolds in the next 48 hours I hope Pelini is not our next coach.

+1

He might do a decent job, but he's not the kind of coach I'd want at LSU. Nebraska is embarrassed by the guy.

I dont know how the LSU AD handles things, but Dave indicated he keeps a list of folks he would contact in case something happened with our coach.

Unsure if true, but makes sense /shrug

Saban type who the players liked

Hard to complain about that combo

Strict accountability but acceptance of the process

All reasonable comments -- but I have to ask, who is better, that is AVAILABLE? I would love to have Gary Patterson but he ain't coming. Plus, re Pelini, there are two criticisms that I think are weak: "he can't recruit." LSU recruits itself. Hopefully he'd have enough sense to retain Wilson. "He's emotional." So what? He was emotional b/c he got jobbed by Big 12 officials who cater to Texas (which is why Neb. is going to the Big 10).

My feeling right now is, I'd prefer Miles to stay, and if he leaves, I'd love to be able to hire Patterson, or Gruden, or Mullen, Saban, but I don't think any of them are realistic, for various reasons. If indeed Pelini is the choice, my assumption is that this has preliminarily been in the works for a few weeks, and, as I said, that Alleva has been quietly asking around. Hiring Pelini quickly is vastly better than conducting a stupid, media-circus, public "search," where we have to endure painfully public ESPN daily reports on the latest coach to turn down LSU.

All bets are off on Miles leaving, in the first place, if the idiot Mich AD can't pull the trigger on an offer to Les very quickly, and instead launches the idiotic media-circus, public search. I don't think Les leaves if he's not, right now, Mich's choice.
