Because someone thought he should be without looking closer at his background. Everyone tends to overlook his struggles against good defenses or for that matter Tulane and Kansas. Personally, I think he's the second best coach in the state of Oklahoma, but we aren't getting a shot at the better coach.

Agreed....Riley's defenses are pretty bad?! No reason to think he will fix that at LSU. Even if he gets better recruits, his defenses have always been average.

he's made the playoffs what 3 times now... didnt win the playoffs but LSU can get better players than OU. Dude wins 10 plus games every year. We had Miles and O, why not get an established coach to coach a top 5 job??

I’m not understanding some of these people either. Let’s trash Riley and go for a mid major Coach bc he knows Louisiana. Swear it sounds awfully familiar to the Ed O conversation before he was officially hired.

Why not go for a legit proven Coach that has a dynamic offense, coached heisman Qb’s, made the playoffs all with lesser talent than LSU. They complain every year about the need for a Qb Coach but whine when there are rumors of a Qb whisperer being a candidate for the head job.

I know you’re not referring to Mike Gundy who is 0-5 vs Riley, 4 of those 5 losses being by double digits. You just can’t be.

I think Aranda would be a better choice. Aranda is the bigger ceiling, and he knows LSU. Riley knows NOTHING about Lousiana.

This argument was shot dead when it was made with Ed O a few years ago and here we are again looking for a coach. It’s time to think outside the box (state).

I don’t necessarily disagree but I’m taking Riley over any other coach and giving him unlimited resources for his DC

"Knowing" Louisiana should never be a prerequisite for the LSU job. Our three national championship coaches before Orgeron didn't know Louisiana either. Hell, each of them had Ohio ties.
