Why publicly acknowledge interviews?

Why does LSU comment or release press that they are interviewing candidates they do not intend to hire? It does not seem to serve any purpose other than make fans unhappy when "their guy" does not get the job. I would not have thought Orgeron was a possibility due to past beefs, but all that press got me thinking he would be good in the DL/recruiting role. Now it appears he was never really a candidate. What?

what up peter n laws. When did LSU ever release word 1 about any interview?

The ogre was on the advocate in a print article and a video saying he wanted to coach at LSU. I am pretty sure in some of that press, he said he was interviewed.
Chavis was interviewed. Koening interviewed. Unless we hire 4 DCs, someone is bound to be unhappy that their choice is not selected. My question is why say you are interviewing all these different people. How bout not mentioning the interviews by name so people don't start taking sides before people are hired.

where did LSU mention it ever? And link me to anything with Bebe saying he was even contacted by LSU let alone interviewed.

What?
When did LSUever acknowledge we were even looking for a DC, much less interviewing. We would hear that the DC's weren't going to be retained before we would hear about interviews.
Otherwise, it's just reporters being reporters.

Maximus, I am really not interested in trolling through the advocate archives. The guy just being in the media talking about it implied someone contacted the guy formally or informally.

Are you suggesting all the defensive coordinators are coming to Baton Rouge to pick the brain of malevetto to learn how to be better coaches? I doubt it. I think they are interviewing.

Rollie,
I don't think any of the noise is coming from LSU. Most of the talk about Orgeron has come from him; not LSU.

Well that just seems crazy, and if that is true, I hope LSU does not hire that guy. I am not the smartest man in the world, but getting on TV talking about a job that no one has offered you seems like a creative way to not get hired. Surely the guy got the idea from someone he was a candidate.

Well, if he hasn't been contacted, this would be a good way to let people know you are interested or it would be a good play for him to put pressure on the Saints to up his contract. Depends on what he was shooting for.

It seems pretty self serving. Admittedly, the O is a little wild but having that guy working for LSU instead of against it would really give LSU a edge it seems to be currently lacking. At worst he could rip his shirt off and body slam malleveto when needed.

Agreed.

Plus it would be kinda awesome to have Louisiana natives working for LSU instead of all these recent carpet baggers that don't have a problem moving on to other jobs.

Rollie, who benefits most from having their name in the press associated with the LSU DC job? I bet there are some agents that make sure their clients get exposure in the press.

Chicken, their clients get that press at the expense of LSU or the school interviewing them. See the Auburn situation where they have had three guys use the press and position to get raises. That is not good for Auburn in the same way this coaching search may not be good for LSU. I think that is why some posters are so eager to see something happen. The longer it goes on, the more the impression appears LSU is not really getting what it is really looking for.

so how do you stop people from talking to the press, TS? Should we take over the local media in every town we interview a coach?
Posted on 12/8/08 at 12:28 pm to Maximus
Well if the media reports are hurting the actual process of finding new coaches, maybe the LSU sports media department should consider limiting the amount of access these people have until this situation is resolved.

limit the Syracuse Dispatch?

The articles that I am talking about are the recent articles in the Advocate. I really do not think the school could do anything about the Syracuse reports or other media outlets.
