He's a great x's and o's coach. Just certifiably crazy. He's his own worst enemy.

Yep...and he's perfect tucked away in North Eastern Washington by the Idaho border. That place is crazy.

Neither Leach nor Patton are/were arse kissers, but unlike Patton, Leach has some free reign to be eccentric at Wazzu.

No Defensive philosophy
Never won anything of significance
Has had "trouble" with past administrators
The whole James Fiasco

If lowly Texas Tech tells their winningest coach to get out then you don't to touch him with a 10 ft pole.

Whomever is running the defense has them playing well. They are a well coached unit for the talent they have. I know if we had WSU's defense, we're probably playing for the Pac - 12 championship game.

That doesn't mean he belongs at a big time program because he doesn't. His air raid offense is meant for a program that will never recruit at a high level.

He's not a defensive coach, so who cares? His defensive philosophy can be "You have free reign, DC. Get me the ball", just like Spurrier at UF with Stoops/Strong.

Won Big 12/PAC-12 COtY awards, as well as 3 different national COtY awards. He's been at TxTech and Wazzu, so he never had the raw material to win NCs there. He would here, especially if Wilson and YawYaw were kept on staff.

"Trouble"? Such as? And...so what? I don't want a politician, I want a damned football coach.

The "James fiasco" was him having some integrity...which I prefer in people. The James family is a bunch of dirtbags.

It *works* even if you don't have elite recruits, but what if he did?

You don't think he would've set untouchable records with Mett/OBJ/Landry? Really? Michael Crabtree was a killer in college and isn't as good as either of those guys in the league. C'mon.

Also....39 points and a win over #1 and defending Nat'l champ Texas in 2008, which had elite UT talent and Will Muschamp as the DC. So don't even try the "well it wouldn't work against SEC defenses" bit.

It worked for Tim Couch, and it works against any defense if the talent level is even close.

What fan of a big time program wants to see the air raid at their school? No AD at big time program is going to hire an air raid coach because as soon as it doesn't work the fanbase would be out for blood.

OU's identity is still running the ball. They've had some great runningbacks. Leach runs the ball when there is a clear cut advantage to do so. Otherwise, he's chucking the ball around the yard.

Every fan who likes scoring points? Every Tiger fan who's tired of Les' Big 10 3-yards-and-a-cloud-of-dust mentality not working against similar talent on the line? My relatives who all bitch about "right up the middle, again?" even though they don't know the difference between a counter and a draw? Every fan who remembers getting embarrassed by UF in the 90s because it seemed like Spurrier was a wizard and his receivers were always wide open.

The great thing about Leach (especially as opposed to Miles) is that if his game plan isn't working, he adjusts at halftime and he's smart enough to burn the house down in the second half.

The fanbase is already out for blood.

You do not think the LSU offense makes adjustments at all? Nevermind.

ETA:

What do you think the OL is doing after every series with the white board?

he's making 3 million coaching at wazzu. he's doing just fine. but when the facts are laid out for mike leach and not ESPN propaganda from craig james (who killed 5 hookers) mike leach is not "crazy" or toxic like you would believe. he's a family man with 4 kids, a very smart football coach, and has a great offensive system.

Making the defense defend the entire field has always been a good strategy. Plus he believes in equal distribution of the football to all his WRs. Which also makes it tough on the defense.
