re: Why in the world would Texas not go after Matt Campbell?

Who knows, maybe be turned them down. But if not, this makes no sense to me. The dude has consistently won at Iowa freaking State.
There are a lot of Texas fans who have been impressed with Campbell. Iowa State wasn't quite as bad as, say Kansas State when Snyder took over, but it's probably one of the harder jobs. I have no idea if he got the call, but I don't think so - there really wasn't much buzz around him being THE guy to call. Just a lot of admiration. But for all I know, he was called and said no.
Purely my concerns on Campbell are:
1. Is he a midwest guy that is going to leave if ND or Michigan comes open? (probably least concerning)
2. Can he transition from recruiting 3 stars and developing them (which he is great at) to recruiting big ego 4-5 stars and developing them as well.
3. Not as much as Herman, but he has shown a bit of a tendency to sit on a lead. I don't think you can do that in any P5 league in CFB nowdays.
4. Can he coach as the favorite. Hell, Herman has almost proved beyond a shadow of a doubt that he's a better coach as an underdog than favorite. There's guys like that (I think Gary Patterson is that way too).
If it had been him, I would have said we got a damn good coach.

Shiny new Pennie party 2.
They felt pretty burned by the last up and coming guy I guess.

Like what Kirby has done for UGA
Taking a winning underachieving program and keeping it the same?
Elevating the program but constantly making stupid decisions, strategically and tactically?

His style probably wouldn't mesh well with UT boosters and athletes, and I'm sure he knows that.
He's waiting on the right opportunity, at the right time, at the right place. As of now it's not like his star is fading at ISU, so he can afford to take his time and be choosy.
I think the NFL will come calling soon and he'd have to listen to that offer, or someday Saban will retire or head coach at a big program without such booster interference like UT will come open and he'll make the jump
