Why don't reporters ask coaches if agents have been contacted

Journalists routinely ask coaches if they have been contacted about certain jobs. The coaches always deny it. In many cases their agents have been contacted. We know this and the reporters know this.
Why don't the reporters just ask if there has been contact between the agent and the school looking for a coach? Why leave the coaches the wiggle room to lie through omission? Why not make them lie outright?

I dont know why they would ask regardless, you wont get them to say anything other than 'no i havent talked to anybody. Im the coach at so-n-so....."

Because the coach would say "I don't know. I'm coaching my team right now."
There is a reason cosches have agents...denial.

I don't really see the point of reporters asking if there's been contact. The coach would deny no matter what, even if they ask about agents.

Reporters rely on information from coaches to do their job.
Would you jeopardize your media credentials by trying to put a coaches job in jeopardy over goign to interview?

A reporter did ask Jimbo this a few weeks ago
he asked Jimbo if he made any contact with LSU. Jimbo replied to the tune of "I had no contact with LSU".
The guy asked him if his agent had any contact with LSU and he paused, then repeated, "I had no contact with LSU".

because they are going to get an answer that doesn't answer their question. and then, the coach is going to not want to give them any info at all later.

Because the coach is going to say no either way

WhiteAdam wouldn't have started this thread.

This is a double edged sword. The other school talk can be a distraction but the other school talk can also lead to coaches getting raises. They can act like they don't like it but it is a necessary evil in today's game.
