IMO Tepper would be an upgrade. Discuss.

seriously? I really can't think of an existing DC who would not be an upgrade to what we have now.

None. We'd be better off drawing up plays on the vibrating football board thing like Homer Simpson.

Scott Shafer @ Michigan. There is no excuse for their performance on D this year with the players they have recruited.

But he's running the 4-2-5 which is awsome.

Ummm, I can think of 92 defensive coordinators that would be a downgrade from Mallory/Peveto ...

Total Defense Rankings (FBS): https://web1.ncaa.org/mfb/natlRank.jsp?year=2008&rpt=IA_teamtotdef&site=org

Total Offense Rankings (FBS): https://web1.ncaa.org/mfb/natlRank.jsp?year=2008&rpt=IA_teamtotoff&site=org

That said, I personally believe LSU (and Miles) should demote Mallory and Peveto back to their previous roles and go out and hire a proven Defensive Coordinator at season's end OR give the role solely to either Mallory OR Peveto and demote the other. That said, how can you justify firing guys that are on the first year of their job and have the defense ranked in the Top30 in the country having played 6 of the Top60 offenses in the county their first 10 games? Granted, the #27 defense in the country is not very good relative to what we're used to (a Top5 defense), but nonetheless it's going to be a very difficult move for Miles to make. It feels like our defense has sucked this year, but like I always say ... everything in life is relative. With a little bit more consistent QB play, the defense wouldn't have been put in as many bad situations.

have you seen the defense this year?

we have top 5 talent, and we've played some SHITTY offenses (AU, MSU, UNT, USC)

It is debatable that we have Top5 talent on defense (I actually agree with you, but it is nonetheless debateable). It is not debatable that we've played 6 of the Top60 total offenses in college football in our 10 games played (3 of the Top25 offenses!)... and we're STILL the #27 defense in the country. I'm not happy with the defense to be sure, but it's only because I'm used to our defense being a lot better than it is this year. We're still a better defense than 75% of the teams in college football (including Texas and Texas Tech and Oklahoma, one of which will be playing in the national title game).

Like I said, I want Mallory and Peveto demoted and/or fired, but I'm just pointing out that there's two sides to every story.
