He’s had some really bad years and is not lighting it up this year.

You would think a school with arguably the best overall athletic program ever would care about the most important one, but it doesn’t seem that way

Stanford the school and it's fans don't really consider football to be that important

Yeah but play them in some obscure title IX sport like women’s rowing and they’ll kick your arse

He would be kicked upstairs to some type of Asst AD position for starters, and who knows how high he goes from there
He's a Stanford legacy
his first 8 years as head coach were phenomenal
he was 82-26 his first 8 years

2019 Stanford 4–8
2020 Stanford 4–2
2021 Stanford 3–9
2022 Stanford 3–5
Last 4 seasons. The next 4 games are against Utah, Washington St., Cal and BYU. So they probably end up 4-8. He has to be done with a non-bowl 2023 season and should be fired now.

You don't get it
You don't give a rip about his numbers the first 8 years, only the last 4, and no one said he should keep his job.
He "should be fired now"?
He played for Bill Walsh and his dad coached for Bill Walsh
He's a Stanford legacy. He will be offered a position with the university and remain at Stanford in some capacity.

wait, so 4-2 is bad at Stanford?

They fired Buddy Teevens after three years and Walt Harris after two. Only Oregon and USC have more BCS/NY6 appearances out of the Pac 12. Stanford are currently 4th in the Pac 12 in team talent composite, and have been recruiting in the top 3 or 4 of the league most years.
Seems like they care enough to be better than they have been recently. That falls on Shaw. I don't believe he is as safe as many think.

Judge the climate.
Elitist liberal Stanford ain't firing their black head coach.

This will probably be his last year there. He may move into the athletic department in some capacity but I highly doubt he's going to be their head coach in 2023. That program has been stale for awhile and it's not going to get any better under Shaw. Best for both parties to go ahead and do it after this season.
Stanford seems like Dave Aranda's next job to me.
