I am glad to see you are back also! BP...should we worry about what is being talked about in the other thread about Miles retiring?
Posted on 11/29/10 at 8:55 pm to kjanchild
no, no clue where that is coming from. I can guarantee that isn't true.

Belowpar--Thanks for your input. I think you have made your point clear about the situation. If you catch any grief for it now I think whoever gave it to you would get flamed.
Maybe Chicken can give you your own thread that only you can post to in an effort to not have to go defending yourself on 50 different threads a day. It would also make it a whole lot easier to keep up with valid rumors/situations.
You da man!

Belowpar, why didn't crouton leave prior to 2010 as you indicated?
I don't believe he ever said this.
I remember him saying that Miles may make a move if he could get the right guy...apparently there was a conversation with Kragthorpe and Kragthorpe only.
And that was the extent of it.

I don't know. I'm pretty sure I never said it was a "done deal"...I said was Miles did interview potential replacements, and he did. I'm not completely sure on exactly why nothing happened though. My guess is he didn't have anyone that really sold him.
Like this year if he doesn't get someone he REALLY REALLY wants and that he thinks would completely make a difference then Crowton may not be gone again. These situations are never as black/white as people think.

This seems to be common sense, but we are also dealing with a fanbase in which a large portion thinks John Gruden is sitting by his phone just waiting for Alleva to call him.

I think Miles is class to a fault. I think he's also very calculated.
I'm convinced he didn't want co-DCs in the long run but he interviews DCs before 08 and didn't find one he really wanted.
I think that's the same thing with last year. Interview potential OCs but if you don't find one you really want then stick with this until next year when you can make a better, more permanent hire.
Additionally, perhaps Crowton gets a job so you don't have to "fire" him. I think that's Miles's MO.
I think we'll start next season with a new OC. As I said earlier, I'm going to try and find out this week what the situation is with Crowton from someone who would know and told me he was staying last year.

Did Crowton know "he was almost gone" ?
I have to believe he did know Miles was looking around
As I recall, Miles had someone he wanted, but then the AD put the clamps down and said "no way" on Crowton's buy out.

Really?

Just because I said I didn't take everything BelowPar states as Gospel, doesn't mean I think badly of the guy. I actually said that it's nice to hear his insight, but that people get to wound up over his stuff. My concerns are with Miles, not BelowPar.
All I've ever said is that BelowPar's versions always tend to paint Les in a positive light and with minimal fault. If you look at his history, this will be proven true. It does not invalidate his knowledge or inside information, but I find it odd that it's never Miles' fault or a bad decision on Miles' part.
With the DC's, he couldn't find anyone better. With Crowton, he couldn't find anyone he liked. Both may have complete merit, but others who also have some inside information in the past have stated different versions.
Again, I think BelowPar is a nice guy and puts up with a lot of shite. He's very thoughtful to give his insights to us on this site. Never said anything different from that, but just because I take what he says with a grain of salt and openly state that I feel that way, doesn't mean I am calling him a liar or a bad person.

I've been watching the threads all day and cannot find any concrete info on the status of crowtons contract. Is it up this year or does he still have a year left?

Posted on 11/29/10 at 9:32 pm to LSUMafia
I would think Leach would be ripe to jump at this job. He is still in Lubbock jeez.
Let this be true. for the love of God let Leach to BR!!
,, he speaks so highly of LSU every time he is on radio.

Miles has to know that the shelf life of Leach as OC is 1, maybe 2 years. Just enough time to win a championship with the stacked squad we have.
For the record, this ain't happening. But if it did, exactly what QB would launch this air raid?

Important piece of info here...if it is up after this season, I don't think there is anyway Miles could retain him even if the pickings or slim.
Best case scenario would be a one year deal if there isn't much out there, but then he'd just be a lame duck next year.
If it isn't up this year...then Miles could just let it ride another year if a suitable replacement (in Miles's opinion) isn't available.
I just can't fathom his contract ending before next season, but yet he is retained. I just can't imagine it.
