What took Ed Orgeron so long to make it to LSU?

I'm wondering this, as he has stated recently that it is his dream job.
He was stockpiling talent at the University of Miami in the early 90's, and everyone knows about his recruiting feats at USC under Pete Carroll.
Was there any bad blood between he and LSU? Had he ever interviewed for a position here before Miles brought him on board?
It seems that his early success recruiting absolute beasts to The U should have been a sign to LSU's administration that a Louisiana boy knows how to get out there on the road and recruit top talent.
CEO definitely took the Odysseus route to his "dream job".

Well he was at SC, then got a HC gig, then went to the nfl, then joined the #dreamteam at Tennessee, then got a shot to go back to SC, so over the last 15 years or so I would just say it came down to timing.

Opportunity. LSU wasn't going to fire Brick with Chief coaching the defense.

What had this boob coach who kept falling arse backwards into double digit win seasons.

He was all set to come here in 2009 but kiffin got him at the last second.

Yea, I guess more or less, I'm thinking about early to mid-90s into the Dinardo regime how in the world we didn't get this guy to come bring talent to Baton Rouge.
I guess it just made too much sense for Joe Dean to actually do it.

A lot of coaches have a dream job, that doesn't mean they are just handed that job.
With that said, he had some problems at some point in his career so there was the whole image thing he had to overcome. Then, the cards just didn't fall for him to get the job.
Saban was here from 2000-2004 then Miles was here for 2005-2016. Last year he was hired on Miles' staff and now he has his chance. That's really all you can say about it.

I remember hearing this as well back in 2009. was it the night before he was going to take the LSU job and kiffin came calling at the last minute?

Heard about it on Culotta and the Prince when he was given the interim job.
Prince said he had taken the job and had to call Miles the next day to tell him he had to go with his friend Lane.
That's their reasoning that if he becomes the Head Coach. Lane will be his O Coordinator

I remember the rumors around the time we were playing in the chicken sandwich bowl. Chavis was pretty much a done deal but Tennessee folks insisted he wouldn't work with coach o. I think o went to destin to think over his options and decided to go with his old friend kiffin. Could have the details wrong that was so long ago.

Didnt Coach O have issues with LSU back in the day? He was not offered to play and he held that against LSU?

He played for LSU and got home sick, according to him.
