It had to do with a timeout being called.

something about the refs not giving him a timeout when he asked for it. only the head coach can call a timeout from the sideline, and apparently one ref didnt think Les was the head coach.

I must have missed it during the game. What exactly happened?

The ref was calling a sideline warning against LSU and Miles was saying he's the coach and is allowed to be right there on the sideline.

Maybe he got confused...its been a wierd couple weeks for him.

They called LSU for a 2nd sideline warning when Les was trying to get a timeout. The Head Coach can run down the field and do this. One of the officials said he did not realize it was the Head Coach. Even though it was the 2nd warning, LSU was not penalized for that reason. The ref did not explain this when he called it.
Does that clear it up?

Yes, i was wondering why they didnt get penalized

I thought it had something to do with the sideline warning. That is, assistant coaches can't step onto the field or bark at the refs in between plays, but the head coach can ( ~ I don't know this, I'm just guessing ~ ) And they started to penalize Miles for doing so, to which he replied "I'M THE HEAD COACH. YOU DON'T KNOW I'M THE HEAD COACH?"

he never shouldve been calling that timeout in the first place. no sense of clock management whatsoever.
