Did he get any consideration? Obviously he was pretty well respected in the coaching community at that point becoming Bowden’s HCIW 2 years later.

Would LSU have more championships? Less? I think he would’ve done at least as well as Les, maybe better. And maybe he could’ve roped in some of Ryan Perrilloux’s immaturity much like he did with Jamies.

We wouldn't have gotten Burrow or Brady and our trophy case would be lighter.

I think that would have been too early for him.

There was some talk about bumping him up, but Skip Bertman made it clear that LSU was not a job for first-time coaches. That’s why he left for Florida State a year or two later. I think UAB wanted to hire him, but the powers that be at Alabama wouldn’t allow that to happen.

I dunno, I kinda figure if he would have gotten hired in 05, LSU would have probably won two or three championships. He’s a better coach than Miles or O. I dunno if Burrow would have gone here, but we would have pulled some good QBs. Maybe Jameis ends up wearing purple and gold?

Mike Archer being promoted to head coach from DC in 1987 then failing was recent enough history in 2004 that most people in BR were saying you can’t promote from within at LSU.

All I remember from 2004-06 was LSU fans blaming Jimbo for mishandling the QBs and sometimes being too conservative (which could’ve been both Saban’s and Les’s influence). People thought Crowton hung the moon after the Va Tech game in 2007 and were happy to be rid of Jimbo.

We would have been where FSU is. He would have run this into the ground then bolted. FSU wanted him gone by the end.
