I thought slive gave him the greenlight and AU was basically a lock to hire him.

God told them to run, Petrino only passes.

Why would slive have to greenlight petrino?

Sounds like there is more to the story than what came out, AU only interviewed him for 15 minutes by phone.
And that Slive stuff is just made up.

I doubt Mac Crawford, Pat Sullivan, and Bo Jackson were told what to do in this coaching search.

The last time we tried a coaching search with a similar search committee, we saw a young Tuberville at Ole Miss who the AD wanted get passed over for the committee's selection of a Boise St.'s HC named Houston Nutt...

So BP just spilled all his beans to Auburn admin over a phone call?

So is this a good thing or a bad thing?

The President did not want CBP because of the potential risks involved. Just think if he hired a young blond OR if he ever had a problem with a female employee. A lot of FOOTBALL people wanted him because the guy can coach. This has divided the fan base. We should have just gone ahead and hired him after Jet Gate.

Kinda torn. Wish he wouldn't have even gotten the 15 minutes. But, whatever.

All depends on who you ask.

Apparently when they went to interview him in his hotel he had a hooker in the closet or something like that.

Yeah, he is damaged goods.
FWIW. Jessica Dorrell and her Fiance (they made up) are both employed by Carolina now.

Really think about Petrino being the HC of a major school right now.
How does he keep control of his team?
What kind of moral authority does he have?
If he is a humbled, and changed guy, is he still the effective hard-arse perfection-driven coach? If there is any chance whatsoever that Petrino is not the same great coach, or able to do his job effectively, is he worth taking a risk on?
Maybe those things sound like cliches, but I think some of you forget how public his humiliation was. I mean, Bama's fans/media would humiliate him more at every turn.
He needs to go to a smaller school, or even somewhere as an OC to rebuilt his reputation. I don't even know if that's possible.

I think he's done.
When multiple Athletic Directors point blank say so and so is NOT a candidate for their coaching position and your agent is calling Kentucky and Southern Miss begging for a job, you are toast.
