re: What happened to Drink?

how much of his success is due to Ahmad Hardy? When Missouri loses a few key players like Hardy, will Drinkwitz go back to middling success?
Drink has had success with a variety of players and fits his calls around their skills.
Last year, it was QB Brady Cook & WR Luther Burden that were the cornerstones of a 10-3 team, with a running game to keep defenses guessing.
This year, with multiple injuries at QB, RB Hardy is Drink's workhorse, having five 100 yard games, then a 250 yd game, and a couple of weeks ago, a 300 yd game. (Hardy has a little Emmitt Smith in him--great balance and bounce-off-of-contact ability, rarely giving defenders a good angle. He's not a burner, but he's also not slow. He's a great college RB, and I predict, will surprise as pro).
Two totally different teams/styles, but Drink has had consistent/similar, results/seasons.

He got an extension to 10.7 million a year, which for him seems insane.
But that is where the market is heading for any coach
I remember when Saban hit 5 million and everyone's eyes were bulging at that time
now we're double that for a good coach not a great coach

What makes for a great coach these days?

He’s got a better record in the SEC than LSU has in the last few years.
Well yeah, he's played shitty schedules in both 2024 and 2025.
2023 was a bit better but LSU beat them head to head, that year.
Mizzou and LSU have been very similar the last few years, as far as performances vs common opponents.
It's why BK was fired and Drink got an extension.

He's a better coach than this board gives him credit for but I just can't fathom paying him the kind of money it would take to get him here
The money is so unimportant. I have no idea why so many of you are so fixated on it. And I’m not even really “pro” Drink. He’s definitely a lot better than most in this board give him credit for, but I was way more pro Kiffin and Dillingham during the search.

He priced himself out of all of them
No one’s paying $13m for his resume

I think Kirby may be the only great coach in the sport right now

Try to work your way out of it all you want, but is he supposed to win multiple national titles in the SEC? Is Mizzou built like Georgia? Alabama? LSU? All the amenities of Texas? A&M? Oklahoma?
Georgia, Tennessee, and Ole Miss had easier schedules than Mizzou. Wanna talk about Lane Kiffin? Should LSU have hired him because “he’s only as good as his schedule”
If he were a terrible coach, he wouldn’t have the record he has and he’d been fired already.
